Starting Thursday of this week, we're taking the JT nearly 100% offroad as we run from Salt Lake City, due West across the Pony Express route along the salt flats and into Wendover, Nevada.

On Friday, we'll resume by running North up/over the Pilot Peak Range, to the Sun Tunnels, North to the Devil's Playground, across the Highway to Zaqistan, then East to the Golden Spike Monument.

Obviously, we're going to stop at some historic/relic spots along the way, but this will be about a 400 mile run with minimal pavement.

Photos when we return!

Been there already. Ran ATV's from the Lakeside Military exit, through the bombing range and onto the train causeway. Was going to add this to the route, but as I'll be solo, there's far too much chance of burning through the 2x spares I'm carrying. Rail spikes are everywhere along the causeway.

I lost the same tire twice out there to rocks. One was a nail thru the tread block. Second one took the side wall. Couldnt plug that

Two of us ran it in Feb 2019 (this year). It was easily 11F and about 15' of visibility with snow on the ground. COLD, COLD, COLD when on exposed ATV's. To compound the fun, once we hit the bombing range, we could hear the jets, hear the bomb detonations, but couldn't see either and likely the pilots couldn't see us. Even though I came back home with a turtle in my pants, it was still a great outing to hit the Newfies. A group of us heading out in a month of so with a ~2 day expedition to the Newfies.

If I have my jeep in by then I'd tag along if there is room. Love going out that way

Get an ATV/SxS and then your Jeep and you'll never be bored. I run somewhere almost every weekend, all year long.. snow or no snow.

You'd be surprised. I started my kids on a 50cc motorcycle at age 4, then a 350cc ATV around age 8..

Over 500 miles clocked across the expanse of the Utah/Nevada portion of the Pony Express, an overnight in the casino town of West Wendover before proceeding North up/over the top of the Pilot Peak range at Patersons Pass, then onto the Sun Tunnels and the Republic of Zaqistan. A few photos:
