Built JKUR to an F150 FX4, to my 2022 Mojave!
Made my first big tow last night. I was watching all the gauges. Trans was running 195-200. Coolant stayed under 220. But the oil was consistently running 230 and I saw 236 one time.

What's a safe high number?

I have a stock 2022 Mojave, 13,400 miles, pulling a 22' RV. I was running 55 mph in flat Indiana. Slow take offs.

I was worried about the trans temps, so I wasn't manually shifting and she was running over 3k rpm's in 5th. Once it hit 236, I went to manual (6th) and got the revver gauge down a bit and the temp "cooled" down to 230.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I've not seen the oil get that warm in mine.

Even the last time I towed back in July and the air temp was over 95 degrees.

My trailer is 27' and around 5,100 lbs with all we want or need loaded onboard.

I ONLY shift manually when towing. I find that I can tow just fine keeping it in the 2,000-2,500 RPM range (with occasional excursions to 3,000 RPMs).

Once up to cruising speed (for me NOT greater than 65 MPH) I can easily cruise in 7th at around 2,100 RPMs.

All temps are pretty normal. Coolant doesn't go above 205 degrees, oil 220 tops but, once moving again drops to around 210 degrees (just occasional observations...it's not like I'm watching it like a hawk  ).

Are you talking transmission oil, or engine oil?

Those temps are pretty tame compared to us diesel guys. I was pulling a small trailer up a long steep grade pretty aggressively recently and saw 258 for oil temp and 240 for coolant by the time I crested the hill and it cooled off.

I was curious if I would get a "derate" due to temps but it just kept on chuggin.

Even without towing, I get 224F oil temp driving on a slight uphill gradient for a few miles. So your oil temps of 230s while towing is not something to worry about with synthetc oil. Pentastar does run a little hotter than other trucks in my personal experience. And Ecodiesel runs hotter.
Not sure what the max safe temp for oil would be but on the JL Wrangler forums, some Jeepers even mentioned oil temps go into 240s without any issues.
If something is amiss, you will also see a warning.
From the manual - page 135.

The babbitt in the rod and crankshaft bearings can handle temps up to about 275*F before problems set in (melting bearings). Since the oil is not just a lubricant but also cools the bearings, you are not seeing excessive oil temperatures. I have seen several modern engines run okay with oil temperatures around 225*F-230*F for a while. Modern synthetic oil is not going to breakdown at those temperatures.

Come out west!

I’ve seen 260 on a 3 mile climb in 105 deg day.

255 cresting the climb west out of Jackson Hole on a 95 def day.

Towing 6k.

230 is no biggie, jumps up under a big load for short bursts isn’t going to kill ya. Motor will protect its self.

On Offroad gauges, even at 230F, the gauge will still show less than half.

Seen similar or a little hotter than OP in warm weather just off-roading, and towing ~5000.
I got the same response, modern oil handles it and pentastar can handle it.
