That‘s for all their garbage (minus radio). Things like SOS calling and push button assistance.

The app door/start functions alone are only like $13 a month.

Get used to this type of fee for service.
Many other manufacturers see this as simple revenue post sale. Certain cars the heated seats dont work, unless you subscribe monthly. Etc etc.
This is the next easy revenue stream for car manufacturers.

LOL - yes, that's for the phone app remote functions (you can be in another state and lock your truck, or like shown on TV Buick ads, you can lock your truck while jumping out of an airplane.
It's also for monthly reports and theft recovery, vehicle locating and more. I get alerts that the gas tank is less than 1/8 with his great if my wife has the truck out for some reason. Or if it's late at night and she should have been home an hour ago, I can locate the truck from my phone.
Your FOB still works...
It's amazing how many don't read the documentation, the owners manual, or the sales guy doesn't explain squat to customers. For both my Chevy truck and this one, the sales guy said it was all but mandatory you sit with their specialist, in the truck, while they go over all functions of the cluster, radio, and other stuff.

Can you pass along which ones these are? I want to make sure to avoid them in the future.
I agree. You shouldn’t have to pay a fee for heated seats.

Ford gives you their FordPass app for free.

You can remote lock/unlock, remote start, check fuel, locate vehicle, etc.

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that Toyota is actually disconnecting the key fobs themselves, unless you pay monthly ransom:
https://arstechnica.com/cars/2021/1...to-keep-using-their-key-fob-for-remote-start/
That is insane. If I had a key fob remote start that stopped working and the manufacturer wanted a subscription, I'd sell it as fast as I could, avoid them and any related brands (in this case, Lexus) and make sure I told everyone I knew to avoid them like the plague.

Edit -
Assuming the manufacturer didn't make it EXTREMELY clear when buying the vehicle that a subscription would be required after a certain time period. Imagine buying a 2 1/2 yr old Toyota and the remote start no longer works after a couple of months. I can't imagine how angry I'd be.

Toyota is so lame all around. I've driven three different Toyotas in the past year or so, and I'm shocked at what crap they are. The electronics are a bad joke. The braking, annoying, and the steering is downright 90s junk. The adaptive cruise on a 2021 TRD... I'm not exaggerating: TURNS OFF at 30MPH. So if it had to slow for traffic, at 30 it goes BEEP BEEP and just stops braking. Good luck!!!

Ford builds in that cost into the cost of the vehicle you say? Also, why is that relevant on a GLADIATOR forum?
Building it into the cost is a smart way to do it. Bury the cost instead of nickel and diming people until they complain in a thread like this.

It's relevant because it's the topic being discussed in this thread.
