Sting Gray (aka Destroyer) is actually just a marketing scheme

It's gone by a few names on different Mopar vehicles but predominately it is known as Destroyer. Ceramic grey was another name on a few of Dodge muscle cars but originally it was destroyer.
Marketing decided to change it since that's a "Dodge" color name.
It was named this because the goal was to match the color of a Navy destroyer.
They call it sting grey in the marketing for the gladiator but they still refer to it as Destroyer internally.
Here is a screenshot of my rig that's enroute.

Personally I think destroyer is a much better name and since it's being retired from the muscle car line and might keep going in the Durango I'm going to use the Destroyer name instead.

Besides. I haven't forgotten what the stingray did to Steve Erwin.

Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Destroyer sounds much better. Time to get a destroyer edition decal from PixelDecals.

As for the color names, that has been a standard for many decades. In the muscle car era, Plum Crazy was In Violet, Limelight was Sublime, Panther Pink was Moulin Rouge, etc, etc.

Nacho wasn't Dozer. I had one in Dozer and it was totally different.

But yes, FCA has been doing this with colors for years. Firecracker Red, Flame Red, Torred, etc. all look the same. Hypergreen, Green-Go, etc.

They probably figured you'd be more likely to see a Gladiator/Wrangler at the beach than a Charger so they gave the color a name that makes sense with the Jeep lifestyle. It's obviously all marketing.

Just going off the example my guy at Jeep gave me. He said nacho and dozer were the same. I've never seen a nacho in person.

I think it's funny they don't change the names on internal systems.

You guys are too much. The official US Navy color for ships exterior is called Haze Grey. And it’s not glossy.
It wasn't supposed to match it 100%. More be the inspiration.
