Thanks guys. I love the idea of removing the inlet tube and cleaning it out. I might just get lucky!
BTW: Some of you really have some weird stuff going on in your heads. :)

Over a gas cap I would like a gas door lock to know if someone has been in there.

I probably would not drop the tank. I would probably remove the bed, that way I don't have the fuel lines to worry about. I also don't have to deal with the weight of a full tank of fuel.

@Varooom, might as well secure the hood too. If someone can pour sugar in the gas tank, they can do more damage by adding something into engine oil through the unsecured hood.

OK, so sugar doesn't dissolve in gasoline... but what if (as is common) there is some water in the tank? Also most gas nowadays contains 10% ethanol, which does dissolve sugar. Or somebody might use syrup like Karo instead. Then what?

I used to do this all the time and still do, but now it doesn't matter. I got a Chamberlain MyQ lift motor which you can program to auto close. I have it set to auto close at 9, 10, and 11pm as somewhere around there is where I usually leave it open! Sometimes I'll be in there at those specific times and it will try to close on me, but it flashes the lights and makes a bunch of racket for 15 seconds before it does and I can cancel it.

Same here - it'll tell me when it opens, closes, how long it's been open, I can schedule a close, etc.

LOL - it was pointed out 5 pages ago sugar won't dissolve in gas and yet - still talk and links (ethanol fuel is a blend, still no worries, it's basically gasoline and all will be in the bottom - fill tube, etc.

I'd sure not go to the bother of pulling the bed or anything major like that.
You need to disconnect the fill tube anyway to go farther - start there and likely end there.

Seems to me this was actually settled 5 pages ago.

Well now I have an idea for April Fool's.

Just pour a little bit on the ground below the filler.

<taster's choice voice> Let's see who notices.
I wouldn't do that to anyone I was friends with.

Sounds like you need better friends.

No, I wouldn't do this because more than likely, no one would get it - or see it. Car pranks tend to backfire. Although zip-ties on the driveline can be funny.

But it might be worth doing to those Subaru owners who can't park correctly at trailheads.

Watched a video last night, Just Rolled In. They had pulled a fuel pump out of fuel tank. The fuel pick up was covered with melted Skittles.

A harmonica zipped tied under the car in the air stream.
