Just installed my Sunrider that I picked up here in the Marketplace, quick question, do you guys always use the velcro straps on the highway? The install sheet said "optional," but seems like the smart thing to do is use them.

No, but when the wind is blowing in the opposite direction and you’re backing up, that initial thump of it closing rapidly over your head will remind you that you have those straps!

Another question about the sunrider. How easy/difficult is it to remove the sunrider if you want to take the entire top off? I’ve been going back and forth with making the purchase, but if it is a full uninstall/install each time that is a negative.

Six bolts, the door frame seals can remain in place.

Most definitely if all you have is the hard top.
I loved it so much I went out and picked up the full soft top.
So now in the winter months I will use the hard top with sunrider, all others full softtop.

I’m trying to find an Oem soft top on here locally and if I can’t find one I might pick up the sun rider.

Do what I did, just keep checking Facebook Market place, forum and Craigslist.
I actually got lucky and found a full premium soft top (rear tinted window) for almost half of what I paid for my Sunrider twill.

Yep. That's exactly how I picked mine up. Member here was selling for $350 for twill. Didn't plan on buying one until next year after swapping out tires and steps and adding a tonneau, but that price was too good and jumped on it. Did have to run down to Lowe's to get a couple of nuts for the rear door frames (they somehow didn't make the trip), but overall, nice and easy and worth the $.

@LERubi585

Once you do the initial assembly of the Sunrider for JL, form then on its just a few bolts and say 10min. to put on or off. Very easy to do....

Initial assembly is quite easy also but will take you a half hour or so because of the Z clip on the cable that has to be placed on assembly day.
Yep. I wondered the same because I plan to swap it back out for the panels next winter, and after installing, I realized how easy it will be.

And yes, that z clip was a pain.

@sbach66

I have run literally thousands of miles with my SR, open... On regular roads and the interstate... very windy days, past semi's...

I never have used the straps.... I've talked to a few Bestop reps that even say, they do not use them...

IF you drive at high rates of speed in REVERSE....(over 30 mph)... do use straps.. 8-)
Thanks!

I miss living on the Presidio. I was assigned as an “advisor” to the Federal Violent Fugitive Task Force out of Oakland, and decided to park the family there across from the Bridge and the beach. 2 of the best years of my life.

Thanks for the info, it’s good to hear everyone thinks it’s worth the investment.

Absolutely yes... just be sure to buy the Twill and not the vinyl.
@Pepe

Just to clarify, why do you recommend the Twill over the Vinyl?
On the Bestop site the Black Diamond is $749 and the Twill is $849. I assume the BD is the Vinyl.
What makes the Twill worth the extra $100? Thanks...

Well, looks better, holds up better and is way way less noisier. Resale on the Twill is better to.

About noise..... With the SR closed....at speeds say 65 mph and over cabin noise thanks to the SR is more then when you have the Freedom Panels on.
Thanks, makes sense.
About the noise, I figured that, and I'm willing to sacrifice some cabin noise for some easily accessible blue sky:sun:
