I'm unable to lock the tailgate - not with the key fob and not manually with the key. Wondering if I'm missing something obvious before calling the old service dept.

Do you have a bed cover? It is possible it is stopping the tailgate from fully engaging. Just today I went to back into a parking spot and my camera was all messed up and when I got out the gate actually had come open. Ultimately when I got home I readjusted the clamps for the toneau cover rails and everything appears smooth and good and I honestly expected I would have to readjust after a week or two from the initial install.

Just a thought to make sure your totally closed, the cables aren't possibly in the way of the clips but other than that if it won't lock with the key or the fob this sounds like a potential issue with the whole locking mechanism or possibly the handle/latches. I am assuming the handle seems fine to you for open/close but I had to ask. If it's nothing blatantly obvious I would take it over to the dealership. This is the first truck I have had that had a lock on the tailgate tied into the electric locks so I personally would be hesitant to mess with it too much plus it's obviously new and should be under warranty unless you were testing out your new crowbar.

When I was looking at Ford trucks, the salesman was scratching his head why the tail gate would not lock. Had the key in his pocket. Every time he touched the tailgate latch, it unlocked.

If you have proximity entry, that may be your issue.

To the dismay of some here, the Gladiator doesn't have a tailgate proximity entry sensor.

Has there been any update to anyone on this issue? I walked out today and my tailgate won't lock...
Both auto/manual lock you can hear the mechanism move. It just doesn't allow for locking of the tailgate. I've had it past a year and wondering if the service department would take a look at it or it will cost an arm and leg to fix it.

Found the culprit. The mechanism was popping up allowing the plastic part to slide of the locking and unlocking mechanism. I used a t25 to take the long panel off the tailgate. Then I tightened the rods and it appears to have worked. Driveway testing only. Will see how it works later today as I drive it.

Hi folks. I ran into this issue with my 2020 Jeep Gladiator JT Rubicon. Truck bed was inconsistent in locking. Worst case, pulling the locked truck bed door handle could be pulled a few times and would open eventually.

Opening the door panel, the locking mechanism was not seated properly and needed to be snapped back in place (As previous poster mentioned). Hereā€™s a video of the issue and how I fixed it.
