Thanks!

I will go digging for a similar document on the 2021 model year.
See attached. I just googled "Press Kit 2021 Gladiator"

Open driver door, look at info on sticker on driver door. No other information from anywhere else holds true for YOUR JT but what is on the door.

No one wants to do the math from the section in the book, they want to copy the max number and call it Gospel and that is wrong.

Or, you know, they might be looking at purchasing and don't have a truck yet, but still want to understand which number is the right one when shopping...

The problem with that is, they see the numbers everyone posts up out of the manual without doing the math, and their brand new JT is all of a sudden worth 1000 pounds less.

Or worse, someone that doesn't know the first thing about towing hooks up a 7000 pound trailer to an already overloaded truck and then someone gets hurt, or worse.

It's just easier, and lazier, for everyone to quote a number from a book that probably doesn't apply to a single JT on the road.

As others have pointed out, it is 7,000 lbs for the automatic. It is also documented in the owners manual. If you don't have one then the owner's manual can be dowloaded from the Jeep website. The sticker in the door documents the payload rating for that specific Gladiator given all of its optional equipment. The payload rating is important because the tongue weight goes against that number along with passengers, cargo, and any aftermarket stuff you add to the truck.

I wish we could solve the age old mystery ( no one here has ever agreed ) regarding the "150lbs driver" and payload. Both sides say it's solved - in their favor.

The number everyone wants to overlook and yet is THE number defining what you can tow is, Rubicon Automatic GCWR = 12,540 lbs.

That is the weight of the fully load JT WITH passengers + total weight of loaded trailer.
Keep in mind that if tongue weight of trailer is over 700 pounds then it's a no go.

A standard Rubicon, with full liquids and nothing or no one in it is 5,050 pounds. For every person that goes in it, start adding weight, for every mod done start adding weight, everything going on trip start adding weight.

Now comes the fun part, all the people, mods, and camping gear loaded in the JT comes OFF the cargo rating for the truck. If you get to the max cargo load BEFORE you ever hitch up the trailer, you are overweight and dangerous. For an inexperienced driver, it's not if but when.

I know everyone thinks I'm a wet blanket, but at least I'm being honest with the people asking these questions, you're not being honest.

I don't think anyone's overlooking or ignoring anything. The question is, "what is the max tow rating of the trim". Not "what is the realistic tow capability of my setup". I think everyone's making this into something it's not.

Yes, your payload and vehicle weight impacts tow capacity. Yes, each one is slightly different. But that doesn't mean sharing the trim's maximum tow rating to prospective buyers is bad either. You can have both with the right approach. But ignoring the question and telling prospective buyers to "just look a the door jamb" isn't particularly helpful.
