Got these Tyger tube doors last year and Really have enjoyed them. Second trip out last year with them and ran into an issue…trail debris, in the form of a downed ponderosa pine across the logging road, didn’t want to get the chain saw out so I eased around the bulk of limbs got through just fine, but took a two inch around limb that decided to join me and the dogs in the cab on the front passenger tube door. So i finally got started on upgrading the doors for some additional protection…. I had a scrap piece of 11 gauge expanded metal, got it cut up yesterday and the first piece fitted and will be welding them in and repainting the expanded metal insert hopefully today/tomorrow.

Oh these are the projects that are awesome! I thought the first fitment was already part of the door and was a bit concerned about the PC not covering where the tube and expanded metal met.

Test fit LOL

Are you going to use an aerosol like powder coat to try and match to original?

Looks great!

Nah too much trouble, when welding and sanding are done I’ll mask off the area upgraded and the expanded metal then put a few coats of rust inhibitor black paint on and call it close enough. Safer / Stronger.

update…
all panels 100% fitted, than last 1% can be taxing.
started in on tube sanding for Expanded metal placement.
a few repairs to do on the panels, then start welding everything in place.

a few tips…
cut out card board templates of the area to be covered, much easier.
do not use raised expanded metal, ONLY flat expanded metal, the raise will shred your skin, the flat can be sanded smooth.

i’ll send out some final pics when I get them welded out and painted, I’ll install them to see how they look finished (It dropped 5” of new snow today, so that will take some extra effort) 😁

Finally finished them this afternoon…
painted the panels with Satin Canyon Black to match the front grill. Ready for spring now, I’ll send a couple of pics installed when the snow melts.
