I've been googling and duckduckgoing for a definitive list of the audio file formats that UConnect will play from a USB thumb drive. I am unable to find any official or non-official list.

My informal experimentation shows that the following formats play just fine on my Uconnect 4 with 7.0-inch screen:
  • WAV
  • MP3
  • FLAC
Surprisingly, Apple lossless format ALAC *DO NOT* work. This is the lossless format that iTunes produces.

Has anyone attempted any other formats? Did they work or not?

I know I'm a dinosaur in the age of Apple Music / Spotify / etc. But I prefer my music listening habits to be private, and to actually possess my music "off the grid"...

It does not look like you have gotten any replies here. Have you learned anything for other sources? I am working on a deep drive into what the system support and how to make the most of USB content. I am working on supported codecs, sample rates and bitrates, playlist formats and ID3 tag support (it appears that Uconnect struggles with non-latin character sets).

Anything you have learned that you would care to share would be appreciated.

Any hard drive or thumb drive not to exceed 32 gb works and your files should be formatted or copied as or either pick one:
WAV
MP3
FLAC
in lossles format....
Also you can make a folder by artist, album or play list.....

The Uconnect 7 inch system in my 2021 reads 128 gb flash drives without issue. It takes a while for the system to make browser available but once it does, everything else works fine. MP4 AAC encoding is playable. The flash drive can be formatted FAT or NTFS. I have not verified exFAT. Linux ext4 is not recognized. I have not yet tested bit rates and sample rates but that is on the list for this project.

On my 2020 JTS, The Uconnect 7" (that was installed at the factory), as well as the Uconnect 8.4" (that I bought from allmoparparts.com & installed myself) are able to read the 256 gb flash drive I have all my music on. Seems I had to reformat the drive -- when it was exfat formatted, it didn't work, but when I reformatted with NTFS, it works fine.

That being said, the NTFS formatted drive **DID NOT** work with the 7" Uconnect in my wife's 2020 Compass. It *DOES* work with the 8.4" Uconnect (purchased from allmoparparts.com) upgrade. So even on the same model year, the Uconnect parts are different between the vehicles...
