So I'm at the dealership and as suggested here I did a test drive before signing.

About 3 miles in I was going about 45mph when suddenly there was a weird noise coming from the engine. It was like a rapid back and forth "slapping" noise. Lasted about 3-4 seconds

Then we continued and I got on the highway, hit 70mph, got off. Back on the street it happened again briefly.

Didnt seem to do anything to my driving. I could hit the gas and keep going.

This is a 2019 Rubicon Unlimited 3.6v Auto. It was in 2H.

Any help/suggestion!

I would walk away from that one. Any second thoughts during a test drive will always haunt you. Might be nothing, but I wouldn’t want those thoughts nagging me throughout my ownership.

Little more info, this is a build and order I put in Dec 2018. I already put a $1000 deposit for the build.

What options do I have? The car has to function properly correct?

The dealership's service department should have the chance to investigate before the customer walks away from a deal. It could be as simple as the hood prop rod or the engine cover being loose.

I assume someone was with you during the ride? Did he/she hear it? Ask to have a mechanic ride with you if the noise is repeatable.

I see you’re in Orlando. What dealership?

Yes, the sales guy was. And yes, he heard it both times.

I'm in Orlando but I'm buying from DARCARS Jax

Give them a chance to find whats making the noise and fix it.
Before you finish the deal, drive it again, in the same manner.
Stay positive.
Good luck!

Unless they can identify it, I’d walk away. They should give you your deposit back. But even if they dont, you lose all your leverage to get it fixed once you walk out and drive away

Unless they remedy the issue and you are sure they have remedied it , do walk away! Do not buy today.

Not sure if it is the right advice but I know I would not just accept it that way.. for sure do not sign anything until they come back with an explanation and you are satisfied on the way forward and what it is.

If you do get it all in writing if it is not resolved and they promise a resolution until satisfied.

Thanks for all the support guys. Still here. Spoke with the GM. He said "let's make sure it's fixed. Better safe than sorry"

Hopefully hes being honest. I'll keep you guys updated

Document and make the GM sign everything.. even if they fix/resolve it there were issues at delivery. Once you sign and leave they may not not be so nice. CYA as priority. If they won't sign and document anything that should raise a flag.

I agree with this. Although, I would probably walk.
