I would take it in for the dealer to (attempt to) diagnose. Bottom end knocks are not a good thing usually. To me it sounds like itās coming from the bottom.
Has this been resolved, calipoontappa? We suggest bringing it to the dealership but if you need any assistance from our team, send us a private message.Anyone elseās engine sound like this???
thanks for the assist. Iāll ask the dealer about what you said hopefully itāll help.Videos from phones and played through a computer - so inaccurate. The sound recording capability of a phone sucks, and computer playback after the video is compressed, it never sounds the same.
It sounds like a "tick" like a rocker noise in some ways on this laptop with Bang & Olufsen sound.
Remember, sounds can resonate through the block. I've seen rod bearing sounds appear to come from the timing cover area of Chevy small block V8s. Sound travels, it echoes, so be careful.
The goofy thing is that I've also heard belts make a "snap" sound............
My GUESS is rocker, valve train. On a computer it sounds too "high pitched" to be the lower end.
Also wrong for piston slap.
Put it in gear, hold the brake, give it some gas. Does the noise change? A Rod would be put under load and the sound should disappear.
See what you need to do to make it change.
Put it in gear, brakes held, let it idle.
Give it gas, what happens.
Rev and let loose of the gas - does it make the sound during acceleration but not during decel, or the opposite?
Anything done via a phone made video is pure guesswork, speculation, maybe educated guesses.
Engine noises should always be seen as "possibly damaging" and time not wasted getting internet opinions.
Go to a dealer - like already said.
Sounds good, calipoontappa. If you need further assistance after your visit, please reach out.Hi Kate,
I made an appointment with my local dealer for Mon Iāll report back as soon as I get more information from them.
thanks.
Not sure how to feel honestly. Donāt get me wrong I appreciate that they are fixing the issue I just have mixed feelings about a dealership replacing an entire engine on a new truck, kinda leaves me wondering ok, at 4K an engineā¦whatās next? Why are you upset. They are replacing the engine. It was probably a manufacturing defect. You should be very happy the dealer and FCA were so responsive. jmho
I can understand that thought process. But, most companies I have dealt with would deny responsibility forever. I am impressed that FCA would be so reasonable and proactive. Give it a chance and see what happens. Not sure how to feel honestly. I'm happy to hear they were able to figure out a repair route, calipoontappa. Unfortunately, I am not a trained technician so I cannot provide insight on an engine swap. That said, if you would like any assistance from a specialist to ensure a smooth repair process, please let us know.So I took my truck in on Monday, they called me earlier today and said they were able to reproduce the noise 2 days in a row and that they are not sure what the issue is. They opened up a case with FCA who then said that it will be more expensive to take the engine apart than it will be to replace the entire thing. New engine gets here Friday and they stated they will have it ready to roll by Wednesday/Thursday.
Iām not sure what to think hereā¦? One part of me thinks ācool, brand new engineā other part is like āwait this has 4,500 miles on it, whats next!?ā
I wasnāt given any options just told that they were swapping out the engine @JeepCares any input here?
