Cool, but it just seems like everyone is jumping on the off-road truck bandwagon now. I like vws, and I like the old scouts though.

These off-road EV's are cool and all, but unless it's a PHEV like the 4xe, it's kind of pointless except for the town crowd. You're not going to do any significant off-roading due to horrendous range, and the possibility of being stranded.

Cool: Scout.
Not so cool: VW.

I also kept repeatedly reading "may" in that article as the board has not approved the project yet. Sounds like there are some hurdles there.

Hopefully the competition causes Jeep to provide professional service to attract and keep customers.

We'll see how it goes.

At this point it's nothing more than the name "Scout", since IH isn't actually building it. I'm a fan of the IH Scout, in fact I used its manual locking hubs on my 51 M38 restoration. Those old Scouts were very functional, I remember being pulled out of a real embarrassing situation by a Scout back in the early 90s (I was driving an 86 Ford Ranger with a 4" lift and 35" tires), I was stuck in the middle of the Mojave river, water up to my doors). The Scout drove a circle around me and then tossed me a line. The dude pulled me out with ease. I also had a buddy that owned one, we lost an axel shaft driving down the I-15 (Cajon Pass) when we were teenagers, scariest thing I'd ever seen, almost crapped by shorts watching the wheel/axel-shaft slide out of the housing. 💩💩💩

Anyway, I hope they/it retains the spirit of the original Scout/Scout II.

🍻

Rocket Builder,
Scout good and IH built some good rough stuff!

But VW, Please, if it's pumping water it sucks!!! Let me tell you 1st gen Passat horror stories, there's a VW Beetle Vert' in front of my house right now, I pray every night it burst into flames!!

Told the wife, Please don't buy that thing!!!

I know mechanics that tell people, Please take it somewhere else!

If isn't air-cooled it isn't worth the hassle !!!!

Well this is going to be an ev, so, no pumping water!

I do enjoy an air-cooled VW, though (I don't hate the water-cooled ones either).

Interesting but not for me...No matter if a person thinks Gladiator is "pretty" or ugly (I'm in the pretty camp 😘 ) there is no denying Gladiator is loaded with "Character"...

Unfortunately, this VW offering does not, imo.
