Hate the auto start.

Abhor it.

First thing I shut off upon starting.

Old Fart here, I don't like the idea of getting stranded.

Should replacing both batteries become a routine maintenance item?

Going on three years with no issues, what say youz?

Thanks!

I think the factory batteries are getting risky at 3 years if you might be in the boonies. Anyway, my 2020 was getting close to 3 years and I got the "New Jeep disease" so instead of tires, batteries, brakes, and whatever, I got a new Mojave. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but imo there isn't a universal answer. One owner will say the batteries will last 5 years, and another will say they died at 3 years and 1 day.

My main battery didn't last 18 months. Didn't even mess with the dealer just got the best battery I could from Autozone.

I got over three years out of the main battery. The original aux battery is still in there and working. I have a new one, but have not had time to install it yet.

The life of a battery is dependent on the environment and use. Trying to set an arbitrary time frame for replacement will either leave you stranded or have you needlessly buying batteries. The best one can do is watch for signs of pending failure and investigate as needed.

I found it interesting that the factory installed 94R battery was only rated at 700 CCA. The ACDelco 94R that I got from Amazon for $160 is rated at 850 CCA.

Number 894.

You won't necessarily get stranded. That part is a bit over-blown by the internet.

There's many threads here about disconnecting the aux battery, doing a bypass.
Jerry has done a good thread on that topic here in THESE forums, making it so simple anyone can do it.

What you do is obviously up to you...........

the fear out there is amazing.

How batteries last is up to the owner to some extent.
Short drives (30 minutes or less) sitting for days without driving, heat, it all cuts the number of cycles down and reduces battery capacities.
Longer drives - ensuring the batteries stay topped-off, not letting them sit for days on end, other factors, can make them last longer.

ESS is a good tell of battery health, as is watching the volt meter.

Gotta agree here.

What I still don't understand is all the hate for the ESS.
It's proven to lower fuel consumption.
It's proven to reduce emissions.
The vehicle is designed to withstand the additional start cycles.
It's ready to go by the time you get your foot from the brake to the accelerator (at least for me.)

🤷‍♂️

ASS is hated because of the way it is implemented...Yea, if you like it have at it, but it should default off upon starting the vehicle and (not on). For those who want it to save a few pennies driving in heavy traffic, go head and enable it. But many of us don't drive in heavy traffic and have better and more meaningful ways to feel good about ourselves for "saving the planet" from climate change. 😉

What I don't understand is why they include ESS on the diesels. I see the EPA logic for a gas engine, but on a diesel? The factory batteries on these are awful. I use a smart battery conditioner every 2-3 months to maximize it's life but the JT's charging system is almost constantly outputting 14.5-14.9 volts to compensate for the ~12.3-12.35 resting voltage of the battery. This is all despite being driven ~30,000 miles a year, disabling ESS and using a tender. Does anybody know who makes the OEM battery for MOPAR?

I think they basically get a grade/score on all vehicles average mpg together by class. The fleet has to meet certain numbers so bumping a few up even 1-2 mpg helps the average.

I'm in same boat with same concerns.
Is it the main battery or auxiliary battery that is the culprit?
I like stop/start though haha

I've had my Gladiator for 3.5 years and still on the original batteries. My wife's JLU had auxiliary battery replaced at 1.5 years. We always turn the SS off. I just changed my daughter's battery on her Renegade over the weekend because it was down to about 75% charge and it was the original battery from 2015. So it's a crapshoot how long a battery lasts.
