Building out my trail tool kit... I was expecting SAE 12-point bolts on the axle and transfer case flanges based on other JL/JT posts I've seen. But my 2022 JTRD has got these strange quasi-triangular socket head bolts on both transfer case outputs, and the rear diff (front diff, oddly, has totally normal looking hex head bolts). They're definitely not exactly round, with a bit of taper on three edges. Bunch of photos attached

Torx T50 fits right in there, but a little looser than I'd expect (the next larger one I've got, T55, is far too big). Is there supposed to be a special driver for these? Were they short of normal bolts one day?

Having broken a driveshaft in my previous truck, I want to be able to remove these on the trail and looks like T50 will do that... Just checking if this is something totally weird or no

Correct, they are T50. I think there's a hardened version of this bit that's recommended but I used a regular one with a hand wrench to remove them. I didn't feel comfortable using my impact wrench on them until they were loosened. Going against best practice, I chose to re-use them and thus I made sure not to strip them.

you can become YouTube certified by watching this :)

That's normal. I have 2 sets of drive shafts in the shop and they're all like that. Some engineer justifying their job to come up with something functionally identicle but visually completely different. Lol

I did the same. It has some good threadlock on them bolts.

When I put Adams shafts in I remember those were a nightmare. Bolt is about 2.5" long and had 1.5" covered in thread locker. That head has a name but it escapes me. I used a harden torque bit T50 and impact driver. Not the big impact gun, 3/8 impact driver. It was still a bear.

Torx Plus they are called
I have a set of each but I wasn't sure if you can you either one without doing damage. So I looked it up and found another tool called a poly drive. It resembles the torx plus. Who knew.
