got a hoist-a-top and build a custom rig for it, and mounted to some sliding door rails to get it out of the way.
With the top just pulled, as close as I can pull the truck to the wall:

Well done! Do you have a link for the sliding door rails?

Not today, but put on some aux lighting for when the camping season reopens or using the boat ramps in the dark.

Over the weekend, I put the jpeggz on for the first time. Put a couple hundred miles on at speeds ranging from 0-80. Mirrors didn’t budge and my left leg got sunburnt from leaving it on the Jeep Star footpad lol. Very happy with the look and double function of these “trail mirrors.”

Just have not found a side rail and step combo to fill my needs (Doesn't hang lower than the stock Rubicon Rails, can be used as a step and looks symmetrical to the vehicle) Installed these Retractable Steps from MORE Off Road in Colorado.
They come powder coated black, lower the step 11" and are spring loaded to retract
Also removable when off roading big obstacles

Do you have any pictures of them pulled down? Those are interesting... How strong are the springs holding them up?

Hey Brother!
I don't have any photos handy but go to Mountain Off Road (MORE) online for more info. They are really strong and well made.

I've got a shorter garage, and wanted a top lift so I can pull it off by myself, but also didn't want to hit my head on it constantly in the middle of the garage (I'm 6'4"). So got a hoist-a-top and build a custom rig for it, and mounted to some sliding door rails to get it out of the way.

Rig before mounting:

Pushed back to the storage spot (ignore the mess that is my garage right now):

This has become a spring project for me as well. I have a carport and just don't trust the support of having the top hang up there, so I'm building a hoist myself with 2x6 support beams. I'm modeling it after the Hoist-A-Top and Lange combined. I'll try to set up a Do it Yourself at some point, but it will have hopefully the best of all worlds.

I built a suspended storage rack for my hard top and freedom panels. Made the frame out of 2x4’s and 3-inch #9 construction screws. It is 68-inches wide x 45-inches wide.

I used 1/2 x 6-inch eyebolts:

Jeep Gladiator What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS] IMG_20200527_095336

Added a support in the front for the top to rear on - there is garage door rubber seal where the top rests.

Jeep Gladiator What did you do TO your Gladiator today? [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS] IMG_20200527_095336

Added casters so I can move it around when on the ground and a few stops on the side and rear to keep the top from sliding off the platform. I had the netting from a past Grand Cherokee so I rigged that up to provide light downward force on the top in the front and act as a drop of the freedom tops shifted forward

Suspended the platform from the ceiling with ratchet straps rated for 500 lbs each. The ceiling mounts are rated for 400 lbs each.

Used foam under the rear to support the top off the platform:

I only need it high enough that I can pull my Z4 under it. Going to let it hang overnight and put the Z under it tomorrow....

I’m doing something similar (size & casters). How are you lowering it? My experience with Ratchet Straps is when you release them they GO And it would be hard to keep all four corners level. Thanks for your guidance.

The fatal flaw of the design..... As soon as I started lifting it, I realized my mistake. I was too far along to stop. In fact, I had to do this in three lifts thanks to adjustable saw horses and the ratchet straps cannot accept all 12 feet of strap.... Yes - the ratchet strap ratchets up but not down. The down is a 100% release.

I am planning to switch over to a rope and pulley design. I found this interesting thread on the internet:

I am looking at doing something very similar to mine.

@TRI-JAB I did 2 ropes and 2 pulleys for a 2door JK top. Worked just fine, but pulling 2 ropes simultaneously was a bit tricky. Especially when it came to tie them to the wall by myself. Used a 3rd rope tied to the wall and both ropes to stabilize it so I could store the freedom panels on top of the top. Good luck with your project

Nuts, was hoping you had a solution I wasn’t aware of.

I’ve done something similar with rope & pulleys and two side loops to the link in your post, but it’s a bit unstable and keeping both sides in sync was challenging both up and down. I have chains on each corner that safely / “permanently “ hold the platform up until I want to lower it. I’m now trying to create something with cable on all four corners to a ring, then to a wall mounted electric or hand winch. Harbor Freight winch is on sale for $79 right now. I really like this storage idea so that freedom tops and other Jeep items are safely stored up out of the way. Not sure when I’m actually going to try this new idea. My top is safely stored fir now.

Just starting my "mild" Jeep project list. Mostly cosmetic upgrades (sill guards, console covers). The next couple of days will be the more substantial upgrades. Yesterday was task 1-3 of 7:
DONE PRO- 1. Install Rhino raptor bed liner (THANKS to the team over @ Axleboy Offroad)!!
DONE DIY - 1A. Install 115V weather proof "pigtail" outlet with Kydex cover (you'll see why in task 5)
DONE DIY - 2. Install Oracle auxiliary LED bed lighting (tie into existing bed lights)
3. DIY Install ZROADZ mini 3" LED floods.
4. DIY install JCR Offroad Overhead MOLLE Panel (along with BTECH 25x4 VHF/UHF Radio)
5. DIY install DECKED full bed cargo management system
6. DIY install JCR Offroad FULL height bed rack (and run VHF-UHF antenna cable)
7. DIY install ROTOPAX mounts.

Hope you enjoy

Having a local Northridge 4x4 is dangerous to my wallet. New adjustable Falcon steering stabilizer ordered. Plus side, added another 13 entries to their Gladiator giveaway.
