I try to find some unsuspecting unnoticed average ordinary individual every year and do something to make them feel a bit less average, ordinary, and unnoticed.
This year I've chosen a fellow from my community who fits the bill quite well.
He's a hard working father of five. The only provider for the family, while the mom homeschools the kids and manages the household.
They both sacrifice completely to the cause, other than a rare night out to themselves while grandparents watch the chaos makers for a few hours.
He's a flooring and tile installer, so no days are easy.
He does like to get out and hunt with one or two of the oldest boys when he can. I don't think he's been this year yet, because he's been remodeling the basement of the house for the oldest two, so they'll have a bit more wiggle room as their adolescence begins to dictate their daily lives.
So in addition to this nice little skinner, he's getting a permit to hunt and fish on my property, something I've never given to anyone else.
I want him to know that he does is good and that what he does is worthy.
I've been there, and sometimes, more often than not, a man thinks he's all alone out there.
