OK, quick question, why is it this hard to decide on a new wheel setup? What size rim, what size tire, what offset, etc.??? It was literally easier to name our children than picking out a new wheel setup. I have information overload from looking through all the threads here, and that's made this decision even harder! haha.

I have a Bright White Overland and just want that meatier/more aggressive look. Would I regret only moving up to 33" tires on 17's? Should I go 35" tires with 18's? Should I cross over to what some consider the "dark side" and run 35" tires with 20's?

Here's what I'm working with:

I know this has been discussed over and over and over...so sorry to clutter up the forum with yet another wheel question. I just had to get that off my chest (ha).

Thanks,

IMO 20s+ with offroad tires look ridiculous, as do most modern truck wheel styles. I, personally, would run 35s on 17s and I want a set of proper offset 17x9 AEV pintlers in light bronze/gold.

But my tastes are not yours.

Step 1 is knowing what fits and the implications of going with certain sizes (your 3.73s will suffer wiht 35s), understand proper backspacing and wheel width, then figure out wheel diameter. Wheel diameter is purely aesthetic (unless you need to clear larger brakes) and should be the last consideration once you have worked out functionality.

A rim and Tire combo is all personal preference. As you stated with all the options and combinations, something will work for you, take your time and narrow down what you like.

If you have a reputable truck shop close by go and see them. They may have multiple wheel and tire combos for you to look at and sit next to your JT to get the right look. If they are reputable they should have a good sense of what will work and what won’t. Everyone’s personal taste is different. Buy what YOU want and like. Don’t worry about what other people think unless they are willing to make your payments for you!

I'm very close to purchasing new wheels and tires for my Overland, and was pretty overwhelmed with all the different options as well. I knew I wanted to run 17's, and decided on BFG KM3 35x12.5x17 tires. For tires that size, you want to go wider than 8" rims if possible. 7.5" works, but 8.5" is better. I didn't want the tires hanging out of the fenders too much, so I looked at the Mopar 77072494AB wheel 12mm offset as a good place to start. Then I learned about hubcentric wheels in this thread...
Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

It took me several weeks to decide on wheels. I was set on my tire size and brand though. I lifted and went with 35s. I have an auto with 3.73 gears and, other than not being in 8th gear as much, performance has not suffered. About 1 MPG loss and no noticeable acceleration decrease. Handling improved with wider tires and the stiffer springs from the lift. For looks and ride I like more tire than wheel. I like 17s. Plus your wallet won’t suffer as bad from the larger wheel size up charge.

FWIW, if I wasn’t lifting I would go with 33” tires. I don’t like stuffing the wheel wells with as much as I can. 35s are no good to me if they're rubbing and snagging on liners and tearing stuff up when they’re tucked or at lock. Just my .02 cents.

I went to 33s and 17 inch rims from Quadratec on my Overland. Also adding a rubicon takeoff suspension and a front spacer. So not a true lift but it totally changes the look of the truck. Not a huge hit in mpg either with the K02s that I purchased.

I also went back and forth for months on this. Decided if I ever do any larger tires it would be with a regear and go 37s and a 3.5 inch plus lift. All comes down to personal preference and how you use the truck though. I have to load stuff on crossbars on the back of mine so I didn‘t want to get it too high in the air.

I was looking at the Black Rhino Kelso in Battleship Grey. They show to be 17 x 9.

I also think 20" wheels look a little silly on a Jeep. Furthermore, those big wheels are more likely to get beat up on a trail. (No offense intended to the truck above.)

I'm a fan of the stock overland rims for sure. Some tire shops may be apprehensive on putting a 35" tire on a 7.5" wide rim though. That being said, you really can't go wrong with 35s on 17s or 18s, all preference :like:

Had the same dilemma. Went ahead with my 35's with new 17" rims, 0 offset. Made sure rim was appropriate for the tire. Factory rims are a little narrow.
