I'd agree it's probably the closest thing JT-wise. Even if you just throw on 35s on a JTR it's still low

The nice thing about the XR package is you can drive it off the lot and be ready to wheel a lot of trails. And if you add 37s soon after you really don't have to change anything

I guess part of the fun is the build, but I like the idea of driving off the lot right onto a trail. I had to wait til I did some work to my JT as a stock Sport S
I like the idea of warranty, too. Anything I change on mine no longer has a factory warranty.

In stock form, I had my 23 JTM rolling on 37x13.5x17s for 2 weeks before a lift.

This is a very subjective topic. I have a JLUR and the JTM........I'll take my JTM and the Fox 2.5 shocks and AEV lift over a Rubi all fuckin day

Does anyone have the scuttlebutt on why they're not offering the JT with the XR package?

The availability of Xtreme Recon will probably push me to a Wrangler instead of a Gladiator for my next Jeep
Then you didn't really need a pickup to begin with.........

Because the JT doesn't need to compete with the Bronc. If you are looking at a bronco sasquatch package, then you don't need a pickup, and if you are looking for a light, nimble trail pickup, the JT is the market. While the XRP is a cool options package, anything it brings to the table can be easily added to the JTR from the MOPAR catalog.

The JT/R is already such a niche vehicle - party in the front, business in the back, solid axle trail porter, it stands alone. From the perspective that all 'true' jeeps are a blank canvas off the lot, the uptake rate probably isn't there, considering a good number of would-be buyers are more inclined to do the work to spec themselves (choice of gears, axles, shafts, lift, wheels), the engineering isn't worthwhile.

Myself, I plan on keeping my JTR stock until the b2b warranty is up, at which point those components that I will be upgrading will be about due for a refresh anyway, given my use. As such, I won't lament tossing the stock parts I've already paid for, in a sense negating the value of the factory options.

Anyway, I'd say that the JT is best suited as an expedition/overland type rig vs. a rock crawler type that the BSQ and JLXRP are aimed at.

I don’t. It’s a nice-to-have-type thing

Im going to buy a RCSB GMC/Chevy or an El Camino as a “fun car” at some point so I figure that will have a bed

The JT does make camping while wheeling much better though

100%.

TL:DR---

JT --> Tacoma, Ranger, Frontier, Chevy/GMC
Wrangler --> Bronco, 4Runner

The JTR is aimed at the mid size truck market and not the Bronco. JT's have taken sales from Chevy/GMC, Nissan, and even Toyota. How many SFA mid size pickups are out there almost as capable as a Wrangler Rubicon is off the lot? None.

I'm not saying IFS doesn't have its place, I'm a Toyota guy but I'm switching to Jeep because... Jeep capability with a bed to do truck stuff. Can't throw a deer or a couple ducks in the back of a Wrangler without making an awful mess.

No you didn't. That was a choice you made because you wanted to, not because you needed to. I get it though, mods build confidence, but they're not as necessary as we may think they are.
