Hi all, I’m looking for some advice on selecting a winch plate to use in conjunction with a custom 6061 aluminum bumper I’d like to build.

Will the plates sold for the factory steel bumper work with a JT that came with the stock plastic one, since I’m going to be crafting a bumper to go over it instead? Anything else I should consider?

I’ve done some reading on 6061 structural strength and believe you only need a 1.5x factor over steel for equivalent strength as a winch plate. Build your bumper with 3/8” plate for the winch mount portion bolted to frame horns (versus std steel 1/4” winch plates) integrated with your bumper and it should only weigh about 8 pounds for the plate not 25.

Heck make it 10 lbs and go 1/2” aluminum!
