I love Apache Wash also; I just hate the climbs. We do bean peaks often, but we can go early morning weekdays, which is not crowded at all. The Subaru photo is from Apache Wash.
If you can get it, I would recommend a front shield to protect your bikes. When I towed my classic car, a lot of road debris flings up hitting the exposed vehicle.
