That is normal 4WD operation on dry/mostly dry pavement in my experience, many 4wd. It is a very different system from AWD and does not allow as much differential discretion... or getting stuck either.

I have a 2022 jeep gladiator sport S Ecodiesel. I have had several issues including symptoms like yours. While on a hunting trip, October 4th, 2023, with less than 8,000 miles, I had the symptoms of HPFP failure, i.e. erratic idle surge, stall, CEL, low fuel pressure on high pressure side...

I will just ask if by chance you had a coffee cup in the front holder. I did, with the finger hook facing forward toward the shifter. It did not seem to touch the shifter but bouncing around, the (2022) gladiator jumped out of gear, would not move (in traffic!) and sent error messages like...
