I too have second guessed 5.13s and many times wished I'd gone 5.38s. Everyone afraid to go too deep but no one actually regrets it when the go to the deep end...
Following this! I also live in CO (CO Springs) and after towing 5000 miles with a 4k trailer to CA and back, more power would be so much better. Probaby won't be able to pull the trigger until late summer or fall so I'll just keep watching from the sidelilnes. Keep us posted please ;)
My local shop handles the airlift kits and they had to order one that fits (they didn't measure anything but they installed the kit so I'll have to verify they got the right fit before we install). That said we had to leave for the trip without the airbags. We have 1600 miles on the trip so...
No idea. But it isn’t the easiest to measure once installed. I had my local shop order them from Air Lift but appeantly my size is several weeks out so may have to do this 30 day trip without...
Yeah looking for the “good enough” option. Right now I don’t see getting much more out of the truck. In fact will probably be loaded down more when we do our big trip coming up with more water and gear in the truck.
I’m just seeking if anyone with this lift has gone thru the process of...
So I have a Clayton 2.5” overland plus kit on my JTR. I also put in the Daystar 3/4” spacer to offset the RLD cap weight (and brake line extensions to be safe).
Overall the setup has been perfect but now starting to tow. And have a 30+ day trip coming in June.
I have an opus OP4 trailer...
Why won’t spacers fit? I have 3/4” Daystar rear spacers on my 2.5” Clayton Overland plus kit (and brake line extensions to be safe) — no issues here.
I think if you are going to regear, 5.13 is your jack of all trades for CO daily driving. Love mine and I sometimes wish I’d gone 5.38 for a little more tow torque but I think a Magnussen SC will scratch that itch in the next year or two :)
I live in Colorado Springs and have 37” and got 5.13. If you know you are going to do 35” and no larger then I agree 4.88 is best. I sometimes wish I’d gone 5.38 (only 5% deeper) mostly because I will be towing a 4K trailer a lot starting this summer. Hoping to get a tuner setup like this...
Thanks. So far I haven’t seen anyone dyno a loop delete or mpg test. I guess I’d be most worried about any loss. If marginal gains then I probably won’t mess with mine till I squish mine on a rock someday :)
Not really any updates and my feelings are the same as before. I am still very pleased that I chose 5.13 over 4.88 for daily driving and road trips. I still don’t yet have my trailer so haven’t towed any yet.
I will have to do some towing and / possibly borrow a set of 35” (to simulate 5.38...
@KurtP —great thread here! I have some questions for you would like to know your thoughts:
1. If you had to do these in order which would you do first for best bang for the buck (economy & power). If I had to guess I’d say tuner first, exhaust 2nd and intake 3rd.
2. Did you get the loop...
I had to educate my dealer twice. I printed the TSB and told them to follow it when they installed it. Got it back and they acted like they never heard of the TSB and I had to send it back to get them to do the TSB. Done now but surprised at the blinders they wear sometimes.
