Will try this next oil change in a couple months. I guess the oil gets trapped in the filter housing like a bit of a vacuum.

I use cardboard but that’s exactly what I do. Am trying to avoid the mess of the filter dribbling all over the frame rail and the foil coated lines when removing the filter. Thanks for the tip!
