Here is a low profile bedrack with a rooftop tent as suggested.This is about as low as I would want to make one and still have enough visibility and storage.
Sorry what I meant to say that the roof top tent would need to hang over if you use the hardshell tent. A fold up would fit but they are pretty tall. It would also obstruct your view out the rear window and eat up more storage space
True with the rack on you would lose the convertible top. A sun roof could be an option on the front cab. However you would gain side compartment storage.
I Like the idea of having open sides. I still want the extra height. This is why I still like this top the best. If this was made of an aluminum frame you could have it with removable panels. Then if you wanted you could configure it with a replaceable hard side storage panel. The rack on top...

Yes the R&D would be expensive on all of these. But for a niche market it could be profitable.
