Yeah, I've actually thought of something like that. Up until now I've bought cars with ~75K miles and maintained them myself.
I guess I'll see in a couple months how I feel about it all.
To follow up, it has gotten worse . . .
A replacement belt took 3 weeks to arrive. I picked up the truck, 5 miles down the freeway broke again. Dealer said they couldn't tell what make it break, but were going to replace all pulleys and alternator.
First alternator that came in was damaged...
Really depends on the altitude, grade and weight. Below 2000' on a medium level grade I can flip between 6 and 7th gear, maintain 70-75 mph. Above 5000' and a steep grade, 4-5th at 45 mph, maybe even dipping into 3rd if it is really high, say 7000'+. Add 1 gear higher for lighter weights, in my...
I'm very familiar with that grade, Dad lives in Scottsdale, brother in Prescott. I towed up 17 with my 20' Silver Streak trailer, about 3,500 lbs. Gladiator (Rubi) was at gross, I was on a 3 week camping trip. During that trip I towed through S. Cali and Az at 118 all the way up to mountain...
Part of the main complaint about the high temp derate is there are no warning lights or messages before, during or after. At least in my experience. Power comes back once something has cooled down. It doesn't sound like you are hot enough to have the "hot temp" derate. AFAIK there are numerous...
And yes, this is super quick to fill out, if you've had an issue take 5 mins and do it.
I believe as well we won't get anything done about towing, but having some warnings and some insight as to how to avoid derating are essential for safe operation.
Just filed, I checked the powertrain and engine boxes.
Here's what I wrote, fyi . . .
After stopping for fuel in Quartzite, Arizona I began to merge onto HWY 10. As I accelerated the vehicle limited my speed to 45 MPH. This is on a 70 MPH section with heavy truck traffic. I was able to pull...
This is a great idea and I will fill out the form. To me this is a potentially very serious safety issue for exactly the reason you state. I've had this happen, it was on a 75 MPH stretch of freeway with a lot of large trucks and limited/rough shoulder. I was at least prepared for it to happen...
Yeah, it took an in person visit to get them to pull up the TSB. I have to drive 115 miles to find a dealer that will give me an appointment within 2 weeks, otherwise they are all 6-8 weeks. Closest dealer only does oil changes on Friday, booked for a month out. They have 1 diesel mechanic in...
At about 17K miles had a very slight fluid leak, especially noticeable after driving all day. Dealer said it was the transfer case, ordered a whole new case, which took 2 months. No more leaks, no idea what caused it.
Just last week the main belt failed at 22K, no hard usage, packing the...
I just had my belt fail at 22K. Took it to a dealer, they said nothing was harmed and could see no reason for it. This reminded me to buy and carry a spare, plus make sure I have the tools and knowledge to change it. Very odd to me why it would fail so quickly, less than a year old
Surprisingly, my TSB parts arrived within a week. I need to make an appointment to have them installed this week, will report back once they are installed
Finally got a chance to tow my trailer today on a test run. I have a 20' vintage Silver Streak, supposed empty weight is 2500, likely closer to 3000 with some extra stuff and water inside. Tongue weight is supposed to be 250. No load other than myself in the truck.
Outside air temp was 105, the...
To me, Jeep should 100% be paying attention to the heat soak derate. This is stopping after driving in hot conditions and shutting the engine down, then driving again within some period of time. With ambient temps high and all the heat under the hood heat soaks into components, specifically what...
