Not a big deal to do the work for us. Just disappointed at having to replace a $600 fender due to a “101” “we won’t take you down anything extreme” event.
Wish we had been on one of your trips. We had all the recovery gear already. We really were trying to be prepared and not just show up straight off the lot. We had all the stuff to recover, air down, air up etc. I just think we got with the wrong group and paid the price.
The spotter was very actively guiding lines. Heck there was no other way because her and I were at a loss. The groups broke up in the morning and we never saw another group (probably a hint there) so as best I know, no other group took the route we did. I have no way to know how easy or...
Yeah this is what occurred to me after it was too late and we were in too deep. There were definitely rigs there that were less prepared than hers so I feel like we could have been paired up with a better group for "101" training. I mean the event is open to any and all and I got the impression...
No GMRS. To our guides credit, he did take extra time coaching my wife more than the others but he kinda had no choice after he took us into stuff we never would have been able to make it out of otherwise. Yeah it drug alot and honestly, I'm not upset about that at all. Before we even showed up...
Without a doubt, we signed away liability. We just felt gutted and betrayed that we were taken by a seasoned veteran who claimed he's "been on these trails 1000 times" into a situation that was way over our comfort level that ultimately resulted in damage we were in no way prepared to sustain...
We aired down on our own and they did have a full meeting before it started. They grouped us in groups of 4-6 with a seasoned veteran as our guide/spotter. One thing I learned the hard way, they didn't group us with other Gladiators with minimal mods even though there were some there. Everyone...
I will load pictures tonight. It was a very large group, hard to say but I noticed her Jeep looked in way more rough shape than all the others I was looking at. No one in our group sustained any damage but they were all running built rigs with lifts and tires.
One fender flare is heavily damaged and will need to be replaced. The rest is trail rash which luckily, I detail as a hobby and have everything to be able to polish the clear coat. Now, they did warn everyone up front that you would be getting "some" trail rash and I was okay with that. Because...
I'll not name names but a dealer in our area sponsors an off road event regularly at a local off road park where they pay for your access to the park and promise an intro to off-roading experience with a seasoned veteran as your guide.
Be as me nor my wife have ever done anything off-road and...
I see your point and it makes sense. You obviously have way more experience automobile electric than I do so I will defer to your experience. As a 30yr student of Ohms Law myself, the only part I can't wrap my mind around is having a short that carries enough current to burn the wires but not...
The disconnect won't automatically open the circuit in the vent of a dead short. The fuse will. Both have their pros and cons. The fuse basically serves a a weak link to open the circuit should an issue occur. If you had a disconnect and no fuse, if you had a direct short while the disconnect...
I hear you. The company I work for is one of the largest distributors of fuses in the country. I have spares in the glove box. We’re going to the OHV next weekend. I’ll report back if it blows a fuse.
Yeah I did the math on it. Full tilt is about 360A. We will see how it goes. It’s not going to see a lot of heavy use I don’t think. If it creates a problem, I’ll change it out for a disconnect switch.
Yeah her tailgate was down. The broken taillight is from the other vehicle. The tailgate will have to be painted at minimum. I’m kinda hoping they just replace the tailgate.
