They've had over a decade to engineer and launch the Gladiator.
Heck, AEV did it to a TJ and a JK during that same timeframe.
And as far back as 2015, they officially announced it as a 2017 model.
So, no. FCA doesn't get a pass. It only serves to question the mediocrity of the product, the...
Yeah, I'm not buying the rumors that JT Gladiators will be $60K+ vehicles. Here's why...
The JL Wrangler Rubicon 4 door with no options is $42,940 MSRP including destination charge.
People are routinely getting 5% off MSRP and as much as 6.5% off INVOICE price. Read here for example...
This truck has to be starting off in the mid $30s and fully optioned with everything and a diesel at mid $50s MSRP. With discounts that get you back under $50K with some negotiation.
At those price points this vehicle has to have fat margins for FCA. So why try to kill sales by trying to...
Same here and have to think the FCA Jeep Product team at least watches the commentary posted here. After all, it's a free focus group.
Dealbreakers:
#1 = MORE LAUNCH DELAYS. I'm timing my daily driver replacement on the JT launch window. Quit delaying this darn vehicle FCA. You aren't...
AEV said something similar to me today on FB:
"We don't have our hands on a truck that has been officially released or announced yet but we are hoping our products we are making for the JL will carry over."
So I asked them:
"AEV so not even had your hands on a JT test mule or been involved...
One has to think, with the above Africa concept from a couple years ago, Jeep is thinking hard about leveraging all this money spent on engineering the JT chassis and suspension. It would not take a lot to create another vehicle category that would repurpose the parts and manufacturing process...
So we are looking at +$4.5K to $6K for the diesel engine plus we ALSO have to pay +$2K for the automatic transmission, right?
That's basically +$8K to get a diesel engine. I've been waiting on this engine to arrive AND waiting on the JT chassis, but geez...
Price gouging for sure.
AWESOME! Was starting to get really frustrated so this definitely helps!!!
But this is what I've been saying for a month or more. They have "real" JT mules that they are doing a really good job to hide from us and the press.
Rear window is exactly as I expected: slider.
Do I see two...
Then the JLs shouldn't be far behind paving the way for the JT. And the certification for the JL diesel should effectively clear the way for the JT diesel, right?
Other than the length of the exhaust pipes, the engine/ECU/transmission/emissions are the same as these parts should direct...
Sounds like someone is feeding Jay a line...we have forum members that have personally seen and heard JT diesel mules out in public being tested.
But I agree with above sentiments. We are approaching 1 year post JL launch and no Diesel engine. If JT launches without the Diesel that's a BIG...
One vendor (AT Habitat?) already confirmed they will build either a replacement hardtop with built in tent and/or a camper with built in tent.
Softopper will almost certainly do a canvas cover.
And I'd expect several companies to offer fiberglass camper shells. Same goes for hard tonneau...
Thanks! But ughhh this is literally just a few miles away...
And I was hoping for JLU interior but that chrome vent says JK to me.
Doesn't look like one of the Rubicon trucks both in mule # (233) or wheel/tire combo.
Well I wasn't counting concept teaser vehicles. Over decade since the LJ (aka TJU...the last factory stretched chassis production Wrangler).
Truth be told it's taken 3 decades to bring back Gladiator.
But now you have me thinking back about other Jeep trucks. Rumor is the official name is...
The "2020" thing sounds like a Marketing and resale value gimmick. Thought late summer to early fall was industry standard on using the next model year...
Why no L.A. Auto Show in December? They showed pre-production JLs last year at L.A. Remember the doughnut window half-doors...
But agree...
Thanks Jay for the update. Well, the JL was launched at the December '17 L.A. Auto Show and went into production afterwards, right? This puts it exactly 1year behind the JL release and initial production dates, correct?
But didn't the JL order banks opened before or after the L.A. show...
Starting with a stock JT Rubicon with standard soft top and no extra options...except perhaps the Diesel engine + automatic transmission...and assumes Rubi has sufficient side rocker/panel sliders standard from factory.
Must-dos:
- non-Rubicon OEM black plastic non-painted front fenders...
