I have I've had to do that sometimes. A lot also depends if I am on flat ground or not. Any incline or decline puts more pressure on the transfer case and makes it more difficult to shift.

My steering wheel would shut off right after I turned it on. i did not have the smoke. My steering wheel did have a short and they had to replace the whole steering wheel. I was fortunate that it was under warranty.

Thanks for the info. I have had the trim for over a year and I have not had any binding. My Jeep is kept outside so it has been exposed to the elements.
