Got it back from my freebie oil change and they said it was the oil filter housing. His guess was it just got cold enough to make the plastic shrink enough to let some oil by. They also had a JL Ecodiesel there with the same issue and said they could only replicate it first thing in the morning...
Its not a heavy duty truck so it seems crazy to me to run a heavy duty tire (Load Range E). I went with a D on my 37s because I tow and haul stuff but I would probably be just fine with a C and I would have shaved a few lbs per tire.
Thats a good possibility. Maybe cold oil under high pressure with different metals warming up and expanding at different rates is causing a leak at the top of the cooler/heat exchanger.
You wouldnt think so, especially since it hasnt leaked a drop since August when the last oil change was done. That was the highest point on the motor that I could find oil residue, on the underside of the oil filter cap. I was thinking it may have something to do with the cold temps but it has...
I traced it back to the oil filter housing.
It was either this morning or Friday night when I ran to the grocery store as I didnt drive it Saturday or Sunday.
I got to work this morning and noticed some drips of dark oil in the gravel after I had parked. After investigating it appears to have come from the oil filter housing. After going back home for lunch I noticed a pretty sizeable puddle under where I normally park. It seems to only have leaked...
Im doing a heater core on my buddies XJ that he had parked for a year or so. Mouse shit every step of the way even after he did a thorough vacuuming before bringing it to me. He cut up a bunch of bars of Irish Spring and put them everywhere. We will see if that works.
From my experience with the little bastards, I would use a finer mesh. Mice can squeeze through some very tiny holes. I used this to keep birds out of a chimney once...
What tune do you have? I thought I remembered GDE saying that their trans tune doesnt do well with regears. Sounds like a tune from them would be more beneficial than a regear and cheaper anyway, except for the hassle of swapping PCMs.
