I like the compactness and tidy storage of the factory unit. I would like significantly better metallurgy on the loop thingy.
That loop is turdalicious at best.
This wasn't today but was this past Saturday. I killed a tire where I don't even like to drive. I don't mind the design of the OEM jack but the JT unit is kind of a pile of dung (at least mine is).
Grumble, grumble. I've been Jeeping since '98. A LOT of days and miles on the trail. Southern...
We're thinking along the same lines. I thought I'd rough cut any risers with a round file, then 60 grit sand paper anything else. I hope that ball joint is still holding on for dear life like you'd expect it to on an undamaged "C".
I do wish it was a scratch but it's at least 1/8" deep at it's deepest point. Just enough to make me concerned.
I had to tap my socket on there (two of the three bolts) to remove/reinstall the unit bearing to get the inner shaft out before driving out of the trail.
I'm always out having fun in this thing. Great car!
I am a little concerned about the axle "C" where the lower ball joint sits. The broken shaft carved a bit of material out of there. I'll have to see how the lower ball joint comes out and decide how I feel about things.
Where how it broke was SILLY easy. I'm SURE it was well fatigued before it broke. I do have over 80 trail days on the rig and am running 38" BFG KM3 (39" on the sidewall). I usually drive it like you mention/allude to. Rarely spinning tires if at all possible.
#RedDogTools and I were able to get this fixed up for me. I was pretty remote (south central Utah). I bought the tools from them at Utah 4x4 Winter Jamboree last Jan. He assured me that I would have all the tools I needed. I am impressed so far. Had everything I need to pull the inner shaft and...

If we want to debate the closures, that link is a great place. The red routes got closed. Some I'd agree with. The bulk... not so much
I'd definitely agree with some of the mileage being closed. Trail weaving or shortcut type things I can see. I definitely do NOT agree with some of the closed routes and some fully closed trails. Full 4x4 and 2 track trails were lost
Great advice.
I leave "Gladiator tracks" on Hells Revenge (no real damage to my rig) even with my 39" BFG. Stock JT would leave some belly and tail marks on the JT and on the rocks.
I lead Poison Spider at EJS and run the 39" tires on it. Again, doable with no damage and rare scraping but a...
I have that set. Haven't used it much but the tools seem to be decent at worst. I'd be glad to pull it out of the JT and answer any questions if anyone were inquisitive
We were certainly in the same area on July 12. We drove from Hwy 6->Salina on Skyline Drive. Central Utah is obviously better than say, Moab or similar ;) .
I'll DM you about the JT regarding pricing (that'll be interesting as I've not thought much about selling it---I bought it almost 3 years...
I've got these two rigs competing for dollars/time with the JT. Good thing the JT is pretty solid as it is
72 Buick Skylark
455, man shift T400, Ford 9"
40" Nitto, Teraflex bead locks
Chev 60/14 bolt
TBI 350
700r4
D300 with 4:1
other stuff that I can't remember
I just hit 57,241 the other day. Had the recall on the pump done about 52k or so. LOVE the truck with 37" tires.
I added 39" Km3 and am thinking of a regear. Not NEEDED but would make things better. I just bought a set of 14 bolt/D60 ring/pinion for my trail Jeep. I'll probably pass on the JT...
Ha! We were out and about last weekend in our diesel Gladiator in Central Utah. Ran Skyline Drive from Hwy 6 to Salina. Everyone was geeking on my fuel mileage over 120+ miles of dirt roads. GREAT weekend to be out and enjoy the area. Excellent temperatures at 9500-10,500'. I think that's...
