Although it may not be related and you most likely have, remember to replace the cabin air filter periodically.

Maybe not related to this situation, but just a suggestion to all, when filling my tank at a gas station I place paper towels (provided by the gas station usually for cleaning windows) around the gas nozzle. This catches the gas if it splash back, dripping down on the fender.
