Well... contacted the company via Amazon.... they’re sending me a new unit! They also said “If the unit is working fine, there’s no need to update the software. Doing so can cause compatibility issues.” Go figure.

that is odd... I’ve had no problems at all with the Bluetooth unit. In fact, my connection has actually become quicker.
