  1. KC under hood lighting.

I agree with the cool factor!!! LOL When I bought my 2016 JKUR, I was bummed that there was no under hood lighting. I loved that my old CJ actually had a light that was removable and had a cable spool to allow it to be pulled around the engine bay. I had to use that so many times back in the...
  2. KC under hood lighting.

Yeah, I considered using VHB (man I love that stuff) because I use it for a lot. I was just worried that the heat would eventually break down the foam/adhesive so looked for an "out -of-the-box" approach
  3. KC under hood lighting.

First off, DO NOT use a magnet set up. Magnets are affected by heat and lose their attraction as they get hotter. The sun beating down on the top of the hood and the radiating engine heat will cause them to let go. I know...I tried doing that with 25# Rare Earth Magnets on my 2016 JKUR...
  4. Post Your Jeep "Fleet" Pics!

Your Eagle absolutely counts IMO. My first Jeep was an 81 CJ7 and my heart always thinks of AMC branded vehicles as "Jeeps".
  5. Post Your Jeep "Fleet" Pics!

Here's the wife's 2018 Granite Crystal JKUR, my 2016 MojaveSand JKUR and our 2020 Gobi JTR

  7. Disabling Jeep's ability to communicate, and its implications

None taken…now I gotta go yell at those d@mn kids to get off my lawn!! I do actually agree with you to a degree. My old man is in his 80’s and just bought a Honda Ridgeline that he has done nothing but complain about. He swears the government and the car company are controlling the car. LOL...
  8. Disabling Jeep's ability to communicate, and its implications

The way these systems are anymore, they are usually smart enough to know when things are unplugged. I wonder if wrapping the units in a few layers of foil to mimic a Faraday cage would disable their ability to communicate but not throw codes. I mean go through a long tunnel and there is no...
  9. Help me decide - big tent problems from winter 'storage'

@chorky You have an interesting dilemma and one I agonize over from time to time. As I get older each day and the ailments start to compound, I figure that a day is coming where I will not be able to crawl up a ladder into my RTT; so that has me trying to figure out what is next not unlike...
  10. Why don’t more people drive naked?

Blazing AZ sun, dust, rain, theft, pass. The reason I have Jeeps and not a Can-Am Maverick R is that I like climate control.
  11. The Case For/Against Recovery Boards

Laugh about the tumbleweeds but it’s almost true. I wheel all over the western states and several times in my wheeling “career” I have done exactly that…sort of. I carry a 100’ length of 9mm climbing rope in addition to all the typical “proper” recovery gear. At least a half dozen times I...
  12. For those with awnings

Buy some different brackets. I have an Alu-Cab awning on Alu-Cab load bars and the awning is butted right up to the the end of the bar. You may have to drill some new holes on your awnings frame but what are a few holes among friends?
  13. HELP! Stuck in parking lot - Fixed

While not I timely story and no pics to back it up, when I was 18 my buddies and I were jumping those snow mounds in a mall parking lot in Idaho Falls, ID one night in my 81 CJ7. Got stuck on the top of one and just as we were yanking it off with another rig, the Po-Po showed up (they had been...
  14. Dumbest Car Myths

I tend to keep a pair of flip flops handy when I am backpacking. Always nice to pitch camp on the trail, take the sweaty socks and boots off, and relax in the flops. But nowadays I keep a pair of over-sized dad slip-ons in the vehicle because when I would drive with the flip flops, inevitably...
  15. Let's See Your Personalized Plates

Sort of. Caesar said Veni Vidi Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered). When I played Rugby in my younger days, my team had shirts we wore at the after game social (where all the ladies were) that said Vidi Vici Veni…
  16. Adding Foam to CVT Tent

Off the top of my head, I can’t remember the sizes of the ExPed’s but there are multiple options out there; they have the Duo in 2 sizes and the single in two sizes. I wound up using 2 singles, one of the long versions and one of the short versions to best fit my tent’s width. It actually works...
  17. Adding Foam to CVT Tent

@sharpsicle I don’t have anything constructive to add to the actual question but I’ll throw something else out there. I have a James Baroud Evasion that has a nice foam mattress and then I actually got a second fitted Baroud mattress to double the thickness and that was even nicer. But then...
  18. Molle bed panels: what's on yours?

I can't resist throwing a curve ball in here...LOL Here's what's on my molle bed panel:
  19. Alu-Cab Contour Canopy Roll Call - not Camper

Roger that and thanks for the reply. This is a what I was worried about. It is probably unrealistic that one mechanism on each door would fail at the same time so that doesn't concern me terribly, although I can't envision my fat @$$ climbing through a side door with cupboards installed and...
  20. Alu-Cab Contour Canopy Roll Call - not Camper

Agreed. I've had the original Explorer Canopy for nearly 4 years and I just put some graphite lock oil in them every so often. They've never missed a beat. Just a general question for those in the know, do these central power lock assemblies still allow you to use the key to unlock it if for...
