  1. Daystar GMRS KU73011BK Opinions?

Over priced on their website and high priced on Amazon. Appears Daystar are trying to follow Rugged Radios with their over priced Chinese radios. Check out Midland and BaofengTech/Btech for other mobile GMRS radios. There are a couple other radio manufacturers with mobile GMRS radios coming...
  2. Daystar GMRS KU73011BK Opinions?

One FCC license does not work across the board. Each radio service is a different license so you would need to pay the FCC for a GMRS license or take a amateur radio test for an amateur radio license.
  3. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

With VHF/UHF distance is more about antenna height and obstructions (earth curvature, buildings, trees, mountains, etc). You can talk to the International Space Station on 5 watts, so more power does not necessarily equal more distance. More power may help a signal get through vegetation which...
  4. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

The body of the radio also has a speaker in it and you can set it so that both speakers put out audio. Depending on where you have the radio body this may help you as well.
  5. Where will you attach a CB antenna?

No, they use VHF radios. You would need a ham radio to monitor and a modified ham radio to transmit on those frequencies. In an life threatening emergency where no other communication options are available you are permitted to transmit on any frequency to obtain help. I wouldn't depend on a CB...
  6. Which Midland GMRS radio, MXT400 or MXT275?

If I understand your question correctly... Yes you could use a repeater channel for vehicle to vehicle comms without interfering with the repeater. With the Midland radios you have to turn the repeater function on for that particular channel, if you don't have it on it won't broadcast on the...
  7. Ham radio install

The first hole hurts the worst. ;)
  8. Ham radio install

Would like to see some pictures of your install. Feel free to check out Oklahoma Off Road Amateur Radio group on Facebook...if you are on FB.
  9. CB radio is dead. Stop installing them and get a VHF/UHF instead!!!

That's hard to say as there are many variables..... just don't go by what's on the front of the box of those handheld radios you see at Walmart and outdoor retailers, you aren't getting 36 miles from two handheld radios unless you are both on the top of very high mountains. Antenna height...
  10. CB radio is dead. Stop installing them and get a VHF/UHF instead!!!

GMRS is gaining popularity. Midlandusa has a number of GMRS mobile and handheld radios available. Baofengtech has a mobile GMRS radio as well. $70 license, no test, good for 10 yrs, covers immediate family. I prefer ham radio personally because of it's capabilities and versatility, but getting...
  11. GMRS handheld or permanent

MURS is limited to 2 watts and 5 channels. GMRS handhelds have upto 5 watts and 22 - 30 channels (including repeater inputs.) For your use I wouldn't recommend ham radios. GMRS would be better and a single license covers your immediate family. You can get both handheld and mobile radios, with...
