  1. Another Cam bites the dust...

I'm sure there's a long list of car companies that do the "right" thing and ones that do the corporate thing. I believe one of the "right" things was Lexus (iirc); one of the models had a leaky engine to the tune of 1 qt per tank. Lexus put new engines in those that had the problems and offered...
  2. Bought a JOOSE Mojave

Since it wasn't discussed further... I know there's a lot of variances in the packages Jeep and the dealers end up selling that change things, but here are the numbers from the 2025 Jeep info: I'm thinking the Mojave just has a higher front end than Rubicon. The tallest overall height is still...
  3. Where do you store your recovery gear?

10/10 response. I was going to say "in the back of the AAA tow truck." I'll go with "in a backpack that's sitting on a rack in the garage." Years ago I got a Timbuk2 backpack that was on sale. Never used it. Then I wanted something I didn't have to strap down in the bed or worry about getting...
  4. 3.6 Engine Tick

Dang. That's Lake Speed, Junior! His daddy drove the Spam car! Back when synthetic oil started to become popular in racing (mid 90s for us), a car owner and objectively smart guy, was curious if synthetic was running cooler because it didn't absorb and take away heat from engine. He held off on...
  5. Another Cam bites the dust...

Our only "catastrophic" engine failure in my ~16 years racing was our Katech (name drop! :D) engine was way, way, beyond it's serviceable life. 2500 laps on it before the season started. Set the track record with it, and after inspection, it only pumped 8.9:1 compression ratio instead of the...
  6. Another Cam bites the dust...

Fun fact: One of the driving reasons MB pursued the merger was to capitalize on American auto production techniques. When they finally got the hands of the "proprietary" financial info, the bigwigs at MB saw the cost Chrysler spent to produce an "entry level" sedan, probably the Sebring or...
  7. 3.6 Engine Tick

Oh, I'm not concerned with the oil, I was more-or-less poking fun at brand snobs.
  8. Another Cam bites the dust...

I know enough to be dangerous. We cracked a valve once, right across the diameter of the face - not even a 1/8" gap on either side of the valve. Ran around town looking for a replacement, ran into an engine shop and he looked at it, dug through his milk crate of valves, and tossed us one...
  9. 3.6 Engine Tick

$420 cam kit (or somewhere <$500) $110 tensioner tool $18 Chinesium tool modified for usefulness $75 1/4" torque wrench $30 36mm socket $30 1-1/16" socket $26 Torx socket set $36 Kirkland Oil (oh yeah, that's where I get my shoes, too) $9 oil filter $20 air filter $9 anti-seize $8 weak-ass green...
  10. Another Cam bites the dust...

Gas or Diesel? I don't believe I have an owner's manual with mine (2021 as well), I've only had the digital one. 2021 Jeep Gladiator Owner's Manual And that ^^^ isn't on those pages. As far as my driving habits are concerned... if anything were to break, it would have done so a long time...
  11. Another Cam bites the dust...

I'm 95% sure when brands mention "matching," it's an inflated marketing term. The cam profile is "matched" to fit "this" head. With manufacturing tolerances vastly (?) superior to decades past, cams and heads are like having 2 dozen pairs of the same socks. It doesn't matter which sock goes with...
  12. 3.6 Engine Tick

Update: 1. Cam kit came unexpectedly early, like 4 weeks early. We were on a short vacation when it arrived. 2. I found during later research that the cam phaser & timing chain tool kits are almost worthless because they're for VVT instead of VVL engines, so I had to order the $110 tensioner...
  13. 3.6 Engine Tick

I was really hoping it wasn't the rocker/cam issue. Eternal optimist here. Ordered the kit this AM. Estimated ship date: August 15. At least it's parked in front of the garage door I don't need to take anything out of. I was so tempted to order off Amazon from sellers like ZWIZITK, totally...
  14. 3.6 Engine Tick

I already have the seals and gaskets. Don't need more of the same.
  15. 3.6 Engine Tick

I meant the visible metal shavings that indicate an impending *boom* engine. I know there are small ones from the cam getting worn - and elsewhere. There's always some bits of metal being worn. In my research I've found some pictures where it's almost like shavings from a band saw strewn about...
  16. 3.6 Engine Tick

Hello boys, I'm baaaack. Add me to the list. ~63,000-ish miles. At least there's no metal shavings to be found. If anyone's tracking symptoms: It's always had a little tick/pressure sound. Then came the louder tick around 60,000mi (missed it by *that* much) which sounded more like an...
  17. This could get me into a toyota

The new Ineos(Eneos?) pickup has that Defender p/u vibe... Too bad my kidneys are already spoken for, and my liver's currently being bartered on. That said, Trail Recon said the new Colorado is *nice, real nice*.
  18. I’m not leaving

I'm not leaving. Fight! Fight! Fight! (don't ban me, it's just a joke)
  19. Gladiator Purchase - Adding Bed Outlet and Locking Underseat Storage

There's cooler options for the underseat storage you can do easily enough. 813 Fabrication makes one, off the top of my head. A few of us have put our own bed power in. I have an AMZN-sourced 4-box that has 12V x2, a double USB, and volt meter.
  20. Did TFL ever do the off road segment of the mid size truck challenge?

Haven't see it, just their comparison vid:
