These can be wet or dry applied. I use wrap material so technically supposed to be dry, however wet does not harm it whatsoever. The sun can most certainly be bordered in a darker orange. Anything you like is probably possible.
Here's an Islander version I set up for someone. Could totally continue the lines onto the back corners of the bed, and move/redo the sun image to match the teal mockup.
Actual Antique Bronze Metallic material (versus a printed simulation of it) is really an awesome look, I go thru quite a bit of it these days for darker jeeps.

Looks like you did a good job in the end. If the decals were pulling up when removing the transfer tape, it's possibly because you didn't allow them to dry all the way (takes longer when it's cooler) or there was too much soap in your solution. Once they are dry they should be good for the long...
