I did the same . I deliberated for 3 weeks nothing else was out there for the Mojave so I bit the bullet . Expensive yes but they do come with heave duty metal brackets to mount them to and a plus no drilling .
I had the same problem many cuss words and about 45 min. I finally got it . I did get the extension cable and installed it so as not to have this happen the next go around . Now that the Tazer has the Pin lock function I added a 2nd extention cable so I can hide the tazer in far reach places ...
That key also has other purposes .. Locking the LH rear seat back and the center console . I have a sub woofer behind the LH rear seat so it is secure for the most part.
That happened to me I changed the oil on my motorcycle on a gravel drive and the neighbor across the alley must have been watching . I put everything up tools empty oil bottles an went in the house to wash my hands the went out to get the bike and found a puddle of oil under the oil pan area got...

I have had these installed for about 2 years now with no problems. I also found that the guts of the locking latches where sub par to the factory latches so I swapped the internal parts from the factory latches to the locking ones . If you look at both side by side you can see what I am...
Here you go . I wired everything with these connectors so if anything ends to be removed like the center console it can be unclipped and not having to cut wires . The top of the Pic is the 4" led (bought at Ebay same with the dimmer switch..they called it a variable motor speed controller)...
It does give it more pep ! You are right on the settings once your done playing with it you will hardly ever touch it . And remember that the unit does slide out of the bracket when you do want to play with it !
While you are installing the Mopar one order one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/373420177975 and it will give you two connection points to power up other items. I used mine to install a 2port usb charging point up front and the other for a 4" LED light mounted in front of my automatic shift...
You will like the results . I have the same installed about a year ago and as you stated very easy to change adjustment settings . I mounted mine on the drivers side center console just below the center arm rest . I have it set at sport mode #7 and love it !
You would still need to have the control buttons on the center dash panel . Not sure if the wiring harness would be the same at that point if not equipped with the cold weather package . some thing to look into also .
