Not intending to sway your choice, just share my experience. I’ve paid much less for the purchase and install of my 3.5” Clayton Premium lift, five Black Rhino Riots beadlocks, and five 37” Mickey Thompson Baja Boss’s at a local off road shop.
My dealership is actually mod friendly and I have...
Moving from a 2.0 JLUR on 37’s to a diesel JTRD on 37’s, I can share that it’s a night and day difference. Still has some great get up and go and averaging low 22-24 mpg at 70-75mph. All while still having tons of fun.
Set up is Black Rhino Riot’s wrapped in 37” Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/Ts.
I have driven and ridden a motorcycle from Northern VA to Key West and back multiple times and would like to recommend the Amtrak’s Auto Train (which travels non-stop from Lorton VA to Sanford FL and back to Lorton VA) if your in a hurry or to save some seat time.
I had my Tundra’s bed color matched to Cement Gray and it was a $100 add on for the 6.5’ bed and Ultra w/UV inhibitors. I would have done the same with my Gladiator, but it’s white ?.
I lived in Parker, southwest of Denver, from 2008-2011 and usually vacation at least every other year since. Drove my JLUR to our vacation in Vail last September to hit Holy Cross. It was a blast!
Definitely want to get out there again, take in the scenery, and hit the passes!
Purchased mine based on experience with our diesel Grand Cherokee. The GC worked flawlessly during the 54K miles And 28 mpg during ownership. JTRD fits the bill for me and let’s me take advantage of better mpg and off road capabilities.
Do you have any additional feedback from an off road perspective?
I recently took my recently modded JTRD for a shakedown trail run and it was quite the struggle to turn the wheel crossing a fairly simple obstacle with the weight of the diesel on aired down 37s. I could use the additional...
Adding to the list of desired modifications following today’s wheeling trip.
Apex Steering Boost Kit or PSC. Turning the 37s with the heavy diesel proved a challenge.
RCV Front axles and chromoly rear.
Will add the diesel’s torque made everything just a little easier.
Went in for service and was offered ridiculous money for the JLUR. I really didn’t want to, but it was a deal I couldn’t pass up. Found a nicely spec’d JTRD in Rockville MD and a week later here we are today.
Dropped her off on the 20th of December for some minor surgery and picked her up...
Concur regarding the price point, but received some good news that the shop found some Fox shocks that should fit the bill until I can find a better solution.
