An example I often use is, how often do you pull a greasy, leaking engine from an old truck and scrap the 35 years of crud off the crossmember underneath to find rot?
In Michigan, anything under the oil pan is probably the nicest part on the whole truck when you get through the grime lol.
...who was very old-school in many ways - and he had a late 1950s Buick which he prized. Every fall he'd bring the car into the shop, up onto the hoist it went, and he'd spray the whole underside with a mixture of linseed oil and something else I can't remember after 40 years.
NO squeaks, the...
I made my own using a cheap boat winch, a Menards bicycle storage hoist setup, paracord and some pulleys.
The cord has loops at the end that go through those bolt holes in the front, and wood dowels go through the loops to secure them. the bike lift fingers grip other cord loops which use the...
I just finished installing a Harken Hardtop Hoist. I'm pretty happy with it, but it has the same issue that many of the cheaper, generic Jeep top hoist systems have: it's really made for a Wrangler top, and the straps don't properly secure a gladiator top. They're set up to secure the top by...
My uncle has a Car Hoist in the Garage him and my other Uncle a retired mechanic run and operate.
I l8ve their set up .. would love to have something like that myself but unfortunately I don't have e room where I live.
I do however get shop privileges and lots of mechanical brain advice .
One...
The gantry crane itself will lift a whole sprint car straight up - but the seller kept his chain hoist so I bought this one - good enough for my use - it could lift my SX4 (minus the drive train) up so I could slide the engine and drivetrain under the car and install it all as a unit from the...
I forgot to comment on how cool the chain hoist is. I love old tools. I still have my grandpa’s old chain hoist. I’ve got some great kid memories lifting unreasonable things with it, like 1,000lb lengths of flat steel to reinforce an I beam to remove a basement post. I still have the c clamps we...
I would have told her. "Happy husband, happy life", to get the twin post. When not in use. She could hang clothes off of it. :CWL:
I know if I would tell my wifey that. I would get a frying pan upside the head.
...Gladiator is pushing the limit of a single post. This thing is stout though. It weighs over a ton itself. It just requires at least one under-hoist stand on the side opposite the post. The only reason I went this way is space limitations and my wife did not want to have the permanent lift in...
The Chinese-made lift is rated for 6000 pounds. I was not sure how it would handle the Gladiator. I may have to invest in a couple more under hoist stands. Most lifts are rated at half of what they can lift, but I don't trust this one.
Same weather here….. and windy…. (southern PA). We’ll take the top off for maybe 3-4 days at a time and put it back on again. We have a hoist also. My husband and I can get the hard top off (or back on) in 5 minutes. We take it off often… maybe a couple times a month (Or more pending...
This was copied from earlier…I hope it’s what you’re looking for.
Depending on what type of hoist you use…will depend on the trolly bracket.
The Unistrut came from Lowes…. We had to buy a 10’ section of it.
The brackets, bumpers, and chord trolly all came from Amazon.
Anyone come up with a simple way of hoisting their Alu-cab contour off the gladiator to the ceiling for temporary storage? I have an HF winch installed on the ceiling that I used for my JL hard top and wanted to make us of it to lift the Alu-cab. I would think using eye bolts inside the load...
