  1. Final Decision...Which Lift Kit...Buying This Weekend

No. April 6 is the tentative date where I can use my nephew´s lift. So hopefully we will get it on there then.
  2. Final Decision...Which Lift Kit...Buying This Weekend

Pretty sure it was Jericho Mountain! We never saw one dirt bike, though. It was all Jeeps when we were there. I don´t think we even saw a SxS. I got stuck so badly in some big rocks that it took two winches, a high lift Jack, and lots of creativity to get it out.
  3. Final Decision...Which Lift Kit...Buying This Weekend

There is a state park there that has a REALLY hard but good trail system. I will try and remember the name of it. It was one of the toughest trails I´ve done, but it was great fun. Very slow going. LOTS of rocks and thick woods. Look up the Appalachian Byway. The northern track goes through...
  4. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

I am not sure I buy that. If that was the cause, mine should have been torched a long time ago.
  5. Clutch Recall (2/23/23): Clutch Pressure Plate May Overheat -- Affecting 70,000 Manual Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators

Maybe. But my ex wife punished the hell out of mine and I´ve had no issues in 90k miles. She slipped it so badly one time, trying to start in 3rd gear, that she laid down a smoke screen that would have impressed the Navy. I think that what these clutches are most sensitive to is proper...
  6. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

So true. Enjoy it while we have it! Yep, I loved it when it came out. Wished I could have one. Would have bought one in my YJ if I could have afforded it. Turns out I completely fell in love with the 2.5 in that Jeep, so no worries. And I saw a 2.5 first hand a couple years ago that was...
  7. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

Until one blows. $12,000 in 2018 for a factory reman, installed. Probably more now. Ask me how I know. Great engine, though. Mine blowing was not the fault of the engine itself. But yeah, a powerhouse, for sure.
  8. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

More than a handful will make it just in the Jeep clubs I'm in. Probably 200 Jeeps, probably 85% with the 3.6. So 170 or so. At least 10 and probably closer to 15 have over 200k, some pushing way past it. Again, the only dude who has blown a 3.6 did it by ingesting water. Not a single...
  9. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

Very, very small percentage. But a very, very small percentage of 14 million seems like a lot to service departments and independent shops. I hate that it happened to yours.
  10. 6 Speed Manual Regrets?

There was no de-tuning during normal operation. That is a popular misunderstanding. The detune only occurs if the computer detects enough clutch slippage to trigger it to avoid excessive heat. If you don´t have excessive slippage, it will never happen and the engine gives its full power. It...
  11. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

I get it and the 5.7 has a great and well deserved rep. I´d love to have one, if it was an option. I´d have jumped on one if available and reasonably priced. What a joy that engine would be in this Jeep! But the 3.6 is dead reliable and plenty durable, especially in gen 2 form. I´m in 2...
  12. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

The 5.7 would be great! I personally would stick with the Pentastar for its durability, longevity, and reliability, however, the Hurricane I6 would be just right for this thing, IMO. It should be light weight, pull like a 392 from idle through redline, and deliver superior fuel economy, to...
  13. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

They were hilarious, actually. But from a scientific polling perspective, they are considered negative responses. I know it wasn't entirely intended to be scientific, entirely. I do a lot of polling and surveying in my work, so please pardon the analysis. I can't help it. Lol.
  14. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

I've got the same 3.6 mated to a 6 speed manual in my 2018 JLUR. It has 90k trouble free miles, and I've worked it hard between towing, off-roading, and spriited driving. (The manual is fun!). I love it and am very confident it will last longer than I'll keep it, and I'll probably keep it a...
  15. 3.6 Penstar Poll!

Interesting. In spite of most available responses having negative connotation, it still shows about 86% favorable responses. Not bad for an engine placed in one of its heaviest applications. (Some Ram models and maybe Promaster being the only ones with more weight.)
  16. 6 Speed Manual Regrets?

I just pulled my new boat with my 6 speed JL Sunday. I had been raving about the automatic in the JT and how effortless it pulls it. Well, the manual pulls it just as easily. The boat weighed in at about 2700lbs, with gear and fuel. No problem for either Jeep, but I was very pleased with how...
  17. Study: EVs cost more to fuel than ICE engines

Just curious, as I don't actually know. What about the cost of a battery change? (I honestly don't know but have heard it is in the $20k to $25k range for a Tesla)? How many miles would that be expected? And how does age/mileage affect resale on a Modely Y, or even a Model 3? I know of a guy...
  18. Study: EVs cost more to fuel than ICE engines

Just some thoughts after reading this.....First, I said years ago when all these governments and automakers were mandating or promising total EV production by 2030 to 2035 that they were just scoring short term political points and that reality would be different. I didn't think, however, that...
  19. Hydro Blue Build has Begun!

Small thing....Added Auxbeam lights to the A-pillar area. I'm pointing the Auxbeams to the front and sending Rigid D-series cube flood lights back to Rigid to be refurbished. The previous owner installed them, but they both took rocks in the glass and have some water intrusion. Rigid will...
  20. New Gladiator Rubicon

Wow, gorgeous Jeep! And ready to tackle the toughest trails right out of the dealer lot. If you have only 10% of the fun I've had with Jeeps, you are in for a treat!
