I also wanted to let you know that my parents have a Grand Design. They have an older (pre-merge) 2950 RL. They love it, and we have used it several times as well. I have heard GD has had QC issues since the merge, but that is an RV industry problem.
That will put you more within your limits. You are still going to be close on cargo weight.
WD hitch will help a bunch. Adds 75# to cargo weight, but distributes 25% to 30% of the hitch weigh to the trailer axle(s).
So lets look at this scenario:
GVWR is 5995, so if your trailer is loaded...
Add to that your probably going to hit your cargo capacity pretty quickly. IIRC, the Rubicon has 1100# cargo capacity. The DRY hitch weight of the trailer is 497. For your estimation, you should use 10 to 15% of your loaded weight. If you load up to GVWR, your hitch weight would be 699 to 1050...
You will probably be fine with this. A couple of points of information for you:
1. find out what the Payload # is for this Jeep. That will likely be your limiting factor in how much you can tow. Payload will be everything you load into the jeep, including fuel, people, stuff and the tongue...
It has to do with their dealer network. Rockwood and Flagstaff are "competing" brands. Dealers that carry Rockwood won't have Flagstaff. E-Pro and Geo Pro are the same, but a dealer likely won't have both.
I like the Geo-Pro and No-Bo trailers and I am planning to buy a No-Bo eventually. However, lets look at them for what the really are--mass produced travel trailers made by Forest River. While they certainly have off road styling and off road features, I don't think either of them are true off...
It is my understanding that nothing we do in the aftermarket will change the factory tow rating--that number is set. There are thing that we can do that alter a vehicle's ability to tow, such as regearing, tire size, forced air induction, etc.
That is irritating (auto-park). Apparently FCA engineers have never hooked up a trailer with the door open. The seat pressure sensor makes much more sense than the door ajar sensor. (SMH)
Not necessarily. Just because it is rated to a certain power level on the dyno, doesn't mean that it changes what the vehicle they are putting it into can do. The cooling issue means that while you have plenty of power on the ready, you still cannot put more than X amount of weight on it or...
Since it has gotten so much attention here on the board, I am guessing the OP is asking about an aftermarket trailer brake controller. If that is the case, then I would recommend the Prodigy P2 or P3. Both are proportional (which is what you want), Both will operate Electric over Hydraulic...
I really liked the remote brake controller they used in the vid. I haven't seen one of those before. AFAIK the factory controller works the same as a prodigy, but the install is obviously cleaner. I agree with not drilling holes if you don't have to.
I did not get in the test, why the cobbled...
Good for you, I am happy that you know how you will use it. Others of us have a different use plan, such as towing a small RV that we can take to the mountains and then unhitch and use the Gladiator offroad, or haul a boat, or whatever.
And we would very much like to make sure that the truck...
