Happened to me too. I just don't plug in the doors all summer so they are easy to remove and replace. No auto door locks or windows, but I can live without that over the summer.
I took my 26 DBHL on a 3 week, 4,000 mile trip and agree with your assessment. My only issue was driving through South Dakota on a windy day. Fought it for an hour, and then just pulled over and waited for the wind to die down (2 hours). I went 55-60.
went on a three week 4000 mile trip this fall out west and it towed great. 7000 pounds. removed my front heavy duty bumper with winch, and my rooftop tent mounts to get rid of some weight off of the jeep.
i would really appreciate it if someone can email me some close up pictures of how and where you tapped into the wires in the door. I can’t find them.

OK. I was a long time Corvette guy. But, when the gladiator came out, I decided to go to a toy I could enjoy 12 months a year. I could not be happier. I towed my 31 foot 6800 pound camper 4000 miles through the mountains and it performed better than expected. It was awesome on Moab the trails.
