Sort of. It is not that they are trying to meet mandated standards for gas mileage. They are trying to be able to claim better gas mileage. The EPA will only allow them to claim the numbers they claim IF the system defaults to the ON position.

I am almost certain it will not work with a tonneau cover. It has the same clamps as any other mounting system, it just also has the ability to remove the actual racks from the mounts so the mounts stay and the racks dont.

I am unaware of any government regulations regarding stop/start. Most cars don't even have it.

The government hasn’t mandated the use of these systems. The reason, as I’m told by my father in law who is a GM engineer, is so they can truthfully make their fuel consumption claims.

The process to remove the mounts is basically exactly the same as any other racks. There are two clamps per mount with a single bolt per clamp.

I have a Lexus CT hybrid and the JT. The stop/start on the Lexus is nearly imperceptible. You can't turn it off. I cannot stand the stop/start on the JT. I know it's fine but it "feels" laggy and unsafe.

This is the view from the front. It doesn't even go beyond the windshield when centered on the racks. With the forward crossbar, I will be able to push it forward so much farther leaving the stern to sit just above the tailgate. Much safer for backing into parking spaces and things like that...
