Help a brother choose!! I can get 20% off the Yakima rack locally but then add back the sales tax which is 8% The JCR is less money to begin with with a 10% discount and no tax, no shipping. I like the adjust-ability of the Yakima but the price of the JCR and the fact that they are an American company. Primarily using the rack for my kayaks which are super long and lightweight.

I really like the Yakima Overhaul, it’s super sturdy and aluminum (no rust issues like I’ve had on past ladder racks). Due to the shape of the bed rails I could only get the post back so far,

44” center to center on the cross bars. It still gets the job done hauling 32’ extension ladders (16’ when collapsed). I like that the height is adjustable, most racks I see are cab height or lower which doesn’t help when hauling long stuff.

One of the best features is how it disconnects easily from the bases. I can take off the rack by myself in two minutes, giving quick access to the hardtop for removal.

Thanks for the insight. The biggest issue I have with most of the racks is that they’re so close to one another. My shortest kayak is 16’ or so. Looks like I’m going to need to mod some sort of windshield light bar mount into a front load bar in order to be able to push my yaks forward so I don’t have 8’ of kayak protruding behind my truck.

I have a set of AeroBlades that I could mount on the JCR rack to lift the kayaks off the roof or I could wrap some outdoor carpet around a 2x4 and mount that atop the crossbars. I just hate to spend nearly a thousand dollars on a Yakima rack that functionally serves the same purpose as the $120 racks I’m using now. They’re just not wide enough for more than one kayak or I’d keep them.

How easy is it to take off the MOUNTS for the Yakima -- I will have a LOMAX hard tonneau (which I presume I would have to REMOVE to use this, but I'd like to be able to easily switch back...

The process to remove the mounts is basically exactly the same as any other racks. There are two clamps per mount with a single bolt per clamp.

At rackoutfitters.com, they show a picture of this WITH a Tonneau cover and THIS both on a truck at the same time. NOT a great pic to see how this would work.
Anybody know if this can be used with the LOMAX hard tri-fold tonneau (same as the weathertech)?

I bought the weathertech, but I don't have the Truck yet!!!

I am almost certain it will not work with a tonneau cover. It has the same clamps as any other mounting system, it just also has the ability to remove the actual racks from the mounts so the mounts stay and the racks dont.

That rack only works with the Pace Edwards Ultragroove. Yakima has an adapter to connect to the tracks at the top.

Most racks won’t work with the trifold tonneaus unless the risers are near vertical. The commercial racks work, but not the ones with sloped risers (like the adventure/recreational racks).
