It is tough to get a measurement of the gap, the roof line is slightly arched and then there are the raised ribs. The front edge towards at the center of the GFC sits about 5/8ā from the roof. At the rib it is probably less than 1/2ā. At the sides it is 1 3/8ā.
I had the ARB 2500x2000 Awning mounted to the CVT using their Mt Hood Side-Awning Brackets.
Having the ARB Deluxe Awning Room gives an amazing amount of living space when not moving often.
What a fun and hard question to answer. My wife and I just completed a 2200 mile round trip adventure to Colorado from So California to see our son. I think I agree with the 12v Fridge listed above, having cold drinks and food handy along the route kept us happy and not reliant on fast food. We...
No regrets, it works well for us.
There of course are trade offs, its right at seven feet as it sits now so doesnāt fit in the parking structure at work, dropped to 18 mpg average, canāt store much bedding upstairs, GFCās tent design doesnāt provide much ventilation to combat condensation. But...
I assume youāre asking about the Mt Hood size, it is the small 50ā wide model.
I have since moved on to another camping setup, but I did really like this setup. Its modularity allowed me to drop weight and gain MPGs when I wasnāt actively traveling. The SmartCap was well made and super...
Cool thread idea.
Having prior experience building the 2007 JKU I knew I wanted to take this build slow. Started off with a great deal in 2020 (early pandemic pricing) Sport S in the color I wanted on the lot. Would have liked to have the 8.4 screen, aux switches, remote start, and front...
In Go Fast Camperās latest video on YouTube (South of the blowhole), racing across the desert, lost control, went off the road, crashing, resulted in a bent frame. I assume the added weight and leverage of the spare tire carrier plus 37 didnāt help one bit.
And that feature had me thinking thatās kind of cool.
It will no doubt be interesting to see how itās rolled out and used. For me Iām certain it canāt replace the functionality of an InReach in the backcountry.
I wonder how weboost and Starlink will be justified by overlanders for...
i donāt think this iPhone feature turns the inReach into doo doo. The iPhone will just be another option in an emergency. The fact they set up a ārelayā to receive emergencies and contact the appropriate first Responders is cool and should limit unnecessary āemergencyā responses. The iPhone...
I just saw on another thread (RSI SmartCap) a new camper on the market, that is also a knock off of Alu-Cab in a lot of respects. The Gaia Truck Camper, I do like its tent doors/windows. I wouldnāt trade my GFC, but itās another option out there. Oh, and itās a better price than the Camp King...
Yeah I donāt know if Iām looking at the right camper, but the one you linked to shows a price of $12,999. My GFC installed was just over $8,000. the Camper King looks like a knock off of Alu-Cab, but the Alu-Cab is cheaper by a few hundred bucks (shipped from Ok4WD). Iām all for seeing other...
Ran up to Mammoth Lakes for a quick weekend trip. Stayed in Old Shady Rest CG, but main focus was paddle boarding on Lake Mary. This pic was taken at the lake while GFC was in āchanging roomā mode.
Currently working with J33ptruck who is in Southern California too, but will let you know if it falls though. My plan it to run straight up I15 when I go up to pick up the GFC, and I will have a very limited timeline to make the trip, so won't be able to divert to Colorado.
I havenāt experienced any leaks with this cap, itās solid. I have read about some owners having issues with the positive pressure air vent on top, but I have not noticed any water intrusion. That could be because I donāt use drive through car washes or higher pressure water hoses, which seemed...
