I know there are folks that reroute the cables to the main battery, and others that just pull fuse 42 or whatever, but thatās not for me.
Iām not a huge modder, and if the people who designed the Jeep electrical system want one-and-a-half batteries, the truck gets one-and-a-half batteries...
So, my aux battery died after about 4 years. Not a bad run. I got the new battery and watched a ton of YouTube videos on replacing it. There are some videos that show the "proper" way the dealer would do it. This seems pretty involved...
- Remove the main battery
- Pop off the main power distro...
Finally got around to planning something, and here's what I'm thinking -
- 11" high custom "outer" shell made of wood with an aluminum frame, covered in fiberglass (or poor-man's fiberglass, depending...)
- That shell will sit over another inner shell that is just the front and two sides, no...
Hey, now weāre talking! This is a great idea. I looked at the soft-shell caps from Bestop and others, but didnāt like the height. Putting a soft cap over an overland rack may be the answer. I have an industrial sewing machine and can sew pretty well.
How is the cover attached to the bed rails...
I currently have a āhalf rackā that I cut down to about 12ā high. I modded it specifically to make the tent is flush with the roof rack thatās on the cab. Thatās about 2-½ā above the roofline, so not too bad.
Iāve seriously considered this. Iām a former contractor and def have the shop and skills.
The design in my head is an overland rack with removable panels so I could leave it open most of the time and pop the panels on what Iām going on a trip. I may have to give this some serious thought.
In my head, itās really just an overland rack thatās enclosed. I can see how it would look strange if the tent wasnāt mounted, but I didnāt buy a Jeep Gladiator because I wanted a pretty truck. ?
OK, hear me out -
I'd love a half-height fiberglass shell with rails on top to mount a tent. I can't seem to find anyone making one. Something where the sides and back open up awning-style for nearly full bed access from 3 sides.
I have a diy truck drawer system that is about 7" tall, so a...
Just caught another rock on the freeway, small chip in the bottom left of the windshield.
Unbelievable.
This one may be small enough to get filled so I donāt need to get another windshield.
Or maybe I just get another whole new windshield since Iāve already met my deductible for the year and...
If you have kids or pets, no-doors is NOT an option, so half-doors is a great compromise. I don't think I'd ever drop $5K on the factory dual-door option, but I've been eyeing some aftermarket half-doors for a while.
That's a lot of work and money to carry one gallon of gas. This seems like a vanity mod more than anything (which is fine, nothing wrong with vanity mods!)
RotoPax in general are very expensive for what is really a plastic gas can with a hole in the middle. I'll stick with my 7 gallon water...
If anyone is interested, replacing the windshield through SafeLite in California with a MOPAR replacement is $692.58. I could have saved $105 by going with a "generic" windshield over the MOPAR one, but wanted to keep it real (and I like the little Jeep graphic crawling up the side of the...
I looked at a Sport, but went with an Overland. Here's why:
1. Kids - I have a kid, so power windows are nice when the three year old is stuck in the car seat and wants the windows down.
2. Dog - I have a dog, and dogs+fabric seats = sadness. Leather cleans much easier (see also, kids!)
3. 8"...
someday I'll get an aftermarket (more durable) windshield, but this is a lease so I'm stuck with OEM replacements.
At least insurance covers it. ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
I have a '20 Overland, and am now waiting on Safelite to stop by with my second new windshield. First one took a rock on a cross-country drive in August 2020, and my wife caught another rock here in town last week.
Anyone else have this kind of luck? I know vertical windshields are far more...
Nothing really. I have a toddler, so removing the car seat to get to it is not worth it. (although my truck did come with the weird Bluetooth speaker behind the seat, but I can never get it out!)
