Have a safe trip. I’m betting that you won’t see any issues especially since it’s cooler now. I towed a 4K camper to Moab in July when ambient temps were mid to upper 90’s without any issues. Oil temps were close on the grades to derating but it never did.
I’m pretty familiar with Monarchs Pass. I’ve towed doubles over it many times in my way to Taylor Park. I still wouldn’t expect these issues at that speed there.
That’s not too bad of a incline IMO especially since the majority of its speed limit is 45 mph. I’m not knocking the run but it’s a shame that we are having this issue with those conditions.
I’ve been following this company on uTube regarding his tuning and today he mentions CFT possible manufacturing better intercooler a and oil coolers for the Gen 3 ecodiesel. It’s mentioned around the 34 minute mark of the video. Kind of a long rant.
I’ve been pulling my 3,800 lb camper for the past three weeks. Started in Florida to Moab, Ouray and now Branson, Missouri. I only experienced derating today and that was when I stopped for a quick fuel stop for about ten minutes. Ambient temo was 96 degrees. I left and got onto the interstate...
Today I made the drive from Moab out to Elephant Hill to ride that trail. I was surprised at how hot the temps got even without the trailer in tow. This was after a slight grade at 65 mph with the AC on
I agree 100% and actually expected this to happen. I did notice that the AC would increase the temps a bit and cruise tends to hunt 5-6 gears on a climb.
Trust me I wish it would stay cooler regardless and I’m interested in ways to achieve this. Just posting what I’ve experienced so far.
I have 16,000 miles on my JTD. It has a 4” lift and 37’s with stock gears. I left Florida last Sunday and arrived in Moab today. I’m towing a 3,800 lb Rpod 189 and maintain 65 mph without using cruise or the AC. The temps were up to 95 degrees and so far I’ve climbed up to 7k feet. No derating...
I’ve been following this post and appreciate all of the information. I’m currently towing my 3,800 lb camper from Florida to Moab and stopped for a couple of days in the middle of Texas. I haven’t yet experienced any overheating but haven’t yet hit the mountains or the high temps. Highest that...
I haven’t had any overheating issues when towing my camper but I believe I did experience the heat soak derating a couple of weeks ago. I was towing in northern Georgia and had just stopped for a quick restroom break. The engine was off for maybe ten minutes in 95 degree heat. I departed and...
I appreciate the offer. I’m meeting up in Moab with a group of us from Florida. They have been there several times but my first. I’ve done the trails before in Colorado a JLU before so I’m good there.
I’ll be in Hot Springs 28 July thru 2 August. I go up to Missouri from there to earn a couple...
Have a great time. I’m hoping to make a trip there next year.
I hear the same regarding my Jeep. I’ll be towing my camper on my trip. Here is my setup.
