Well, the antenna and antenna placement were the cause of my issues. With the antenna mounted more forward on the hood and a Laird BB4502N, I was able to hit a repeater 25 miles away tonight. Squelch is set at the out-of-the-box spec of 4, and I have zero interference/static on every frequency...
I have a Z AUTOMOTIVE front camera kit. The camera obtains it’s power from the 12v plug via a jumper harness. Other then that, no other electronics other the Baja Designs LEDs on the cowl, rear, and rock lights.
I had some spare time yesterday and roughly wired from the battery/grounding post into the cab as a test. You were 100% correct that it would not make a difference.
Since Illinois is finally seeing better weather today (SoCal sounds better), I’ll get the mag mount out and see if I can narrow it...
Looking for one still..
On another note, I finally had the engine running and went out for a ride. While scanning, my radio always stops on ch2 (462.5875 MHz) with static. I’ve attached a video below. Even with cranking the squelch up, it’s still coming in as static. Once again, does anyone...
Well I pulled the whole system out and re-ran everything and checked my coax. I also changed where the antenna was mounted, the interface is no longer and my SWR varies from 1.00 to 1.15.
Thank you all so much for you suggestions and time! Everything is operating well!
The antenna installed is a Midland MXTA25 3dB Gain Ghost Antenna.
Could a positive and negative wire run alongside the antenna wire cause this much of an issue?
I am giving this a go today. The camera installed isn't a dash camera; it's a front generic "trail camera" that Tazer sells. This camera's power and video cable is run with the antenna wire through the dash and firewall.
I'm beginning to think this is where my issue is...
i just ordered a Laird quarterwave antenna that covers GMRS frequencies and a SWR meter. Should be here tomorrow and I’ll report back with my finding!
Thank you everyone for your responses and willingness to help me sort this out. Just to troubleshoot, I hooked the MXT115 stock antenna up and popped it on my hood, running the wire away from all other possible interference sources. Still getting a random signal.
I have the radio wired into the...
Hi all,
I am very new to radios and GMRS. I recently installed a Midland MXT115 with a ghost antenna mounted near the driver's side a pillar. Since completing the installation, I noticed the radio shows it’s receiving a weak signal on every channel.
The antenna cable is routed from under the...
Just as the title reads, willing to buy the Rubicon stubby or trade your stubby for my full length plus cash... In Illinois/Southern Wisconsin or Springfield/St. Louis area (on weekdays - in the area for work...)
Super disappointed. Just rolled 2,000 miles and I have the rumble strip sound starting from the front passengers side. Did Jeep ever put out a TSB? If so, what’s the number.
21 Rubi...
