Do you have anything else installed on your JT? I forget if the cig lighter is ign switched but do you happen to have a charger plugged in there. I've dealt with several noise issues caused by cheap 12v adapters. Just something to keep in mind.

I have a Z AUTOMOTIVE front camera kit. The camera obtains it’s power from the 12v plug via a jumper harness. Other then that, no other electronics other the Baja Designs LEDs on the cowl, rear, and rock lights.

Did you get a chance to try a different antenna position?

Well, the antenna and antenna placement were the cause of my issues. With the antenna mounted more forward on the hood and a Laird BB4502N, I was able to hit a repeater 25 miles away tonight. Squelch is set at the out-of-the-box spec of 4, and I have zero interference/static on every frequency.

Again, I want to thank all of you that contributed to this thread!

I think more people should read this and spread the word, friends don't let friends use low pillar mounted ghost pud antennas.

Hey! Just to confirm, you're still cowl-mounted, but used the bolt closer to the hood and farther from the A-pillar?

Yeah I've only really used those type of antennas on roofs. Don't perform well.
